He looks like an exciting prospect. Definitely one to watch out for this season.

After all the offseason discussion about where he'd play, it does seem that the team sees Hufanga as a pure safety. Granted, it's only 1 game, but it doesn't appear the 49ers are overthinking this. And s**t, if he continues to play like this, I don't blame them. On play 1, gotta love him getting downhill in a hurry after the 49ers roll into what appears to be cover 1 robber and stopping the slant in its tracks to get the defense off the field. And on play 2, cleaning up after Whiffner whiffs on McKinnon. Textbook pursuit angle and how about that closing speed? He looks pretty damn fast there. 👀
Watching it live, the one that impressed me, speed wise, was the end around/shovel to Hill. Hufanga sniffed it out and crashed down quick enough to force Hill wide so that his momentum carried him out of bounds after only about 5 yards. He didn't make the tackle, but I thought that showed he has enough speed to play in the Nfl. Which was the main concern with him.
Here's Talanoa Hufanga's tape. He flashed on both defense and special teams.

Looking forward to watching this kid become a stud in the near future. #49ers pic.twitter.com/u9sb9AX4ip

They put him in single high vs KC although he wasn't tested. Forget combine numbers, maybe he simply has good enough game speed and that's what matters. I'd like to see him play quarters and have to turn and run with a deep Post. Let's see how he operates in open space.

it's OBVIOUS that coverage is not his strongest point, but if our DC can be creative as to where to line him up, I think SELSON BLUE will make plays... lots of them !!!

Nah, that's what we have Ward for.
Ward's cover skills and versatility allow us to keep Huff doing what he does best.
