NBC Sports Bay Area compared Banks to Gabe Jackson, who many in here wanted to see the team add in FA before he went to Seattle.

Because that's his consistent weakness despite playing next to HOF LT's his entire career and he put our QB on I.R. twice by himself last year from that same area of weakness. At this point, he is what he is, and the QB behind him isn't going to change that. That doesn't guarentee he WILL get Lance hurt but he's certainly going to compete with McGlinchey at increasing those odds.
He wasn't the 1st guard nor will he be the last to miss a block or get beat by a pass rusher. I would argue most teams would rather have him than their weakest starting guard. Either way, you can't blame an Olineman for a QB injury. Like my Devey point, there are plenty of terrible guards that have never had a QB miss games on their watch. Russell Wilson, who never gets hurt, would love to have Tomlison as his LG.
It's also not outside the realm of possibility that his missed blocks were the result of bad communication of assignments from the Center.

Pointing out a clear weakness isn't saying he sucks overall or we shouldn't resign him going forward or that he couldn't start on the mass majority of NFL teams. But there's a reason they went out and got two G's who's primary strength is...pass protection. This may also be Tomlinson's last year here too. The coaches watched their entire season go down the drain, twice, because of the same guy (although everyone still blames Jimmy). Give me another example of an OL sending their QB to I.R. twice in the same season.

Yeah, I suspect we'll see a big difference in the mental game on protection calls this year, for sure.

LT was not the reason Jimmy tore his ACL, you're reaching on that one....Jimmy twisted his ankle on a low hit from QW (yes LT f**ked up) IMO Jimmy actually played better after the ankle tweak in the Jets game lol.
LT has been a fine LG. we now have more competition which is a good thing

Now you are just being disingenuous. You know darn well that the IR rules were different last year. Can you give me another example of a CB playing week 1, going on IR, returning, getting and INT, and then going back on IR? You also know, that the 2nd trip to IR was because of how he was throwing in the Miami game and not because of how Tomlinson was blocking. I agree that the team's hope is for both of the rookies to win starting jobs so our Oline continuity will be there for years to come, but I am pretty confident that neither will unseat a healthy Tomlinson this year.

Cesar Ruiz. Back to back weeks got his QB literally killed, despite playing with the best OL in football and a HOF QB. Brees playing with collapsed lung and broken ribs from the previous week when he gave up the kill shot ending ending his season against the niners as an encore

Moves pretty well for a big guy, can pull, gets to the 2nd level, and sticks to his blocks. Pretty good.

Not only that but I've see many Bs have lineman land on their ankle and they didn't end up missing that much time. It wasn't a really hard hit. it was just that he landed on it just right. This happens a lot to QBs in the pocket. Bodies are falling all over the place. Often times their own lineman gets blocked and falls on their foot or ankle. Blaming Tomlinson for Jimmy's injury is just another way to cover for a guy that gets hurt easily.

all that matters with this dude is pass pro. forget run blocking we dont need help there. were already great there an shannys system creates its own lanes. this dude needs to focus on pass pro an thats it. if he can improve that on the right side this may be the teams best pick up in a long time.

Who said Jimmy's ACL was due to Tomlinson?
No way to spin the two last year. You saw the video numerous times. It's OK to admit LT got beat badly. It happens.
