"With over 80 tight ends attending last year, there is a quarterback need for the on-field sessions this year. One of those players will be third-year quarterback Trey Lance. Josh Allen of the Buffalo Bills will join him.

"We got some great quarterbacks coming in—Josh Allen, Trey Lance," Kittle said this week on ESPN Chicago's Waddle & Silvy show. "It's going to be a good one. It'll be really fun down there in Nashville."

I got a hypothetical if Lance tears it up this pre season / training camp by tear it up i mean he is now making all the short easy throws accurately and hitting guys deep and using his legs effectively and shows the control and poise Purdy has does he still stay on the bench week 1?

Best qb of the two should start. It's that simple.

No, he'd be the starter.

Obviously Purdy is better at the moment but some people or at least i do feel Lance could be the better QB down the line. But if he can't even see the field we can never be sure of that.

Hes gotta earn that with his play.

The problem is the 49ers can't afford to wait 'down the line'. The 49ers are built to win now.

That's not Lance's fault of course - the kid needs to play.

Hard to earn it when you can't get on the field.

That's why i don't understand what there doing. They cant afford to wait but they drafted the least ready QB in the draft a QB they knew would take a few seasons to grow.

Assuming Brock is 100% healthy at the start of the regular season, I think Kyle will get Trey on the field in the regular season with certain packages. I think thats why they drafted all those TEs and hybrid undrafted players. A three tight end *passing* offense with Lance (vs Purdy) in short yardage and goal line situation will be (i think) something teams will have a huge headache in preparing for.

This is the Taysom Hill scenario (again assuming Brock is 100% healthy) at the start of the NFL season. Taysom did well behind Brees, but the next head coach changed Tasyom's career trajectory to TE despite going 4-1 as a starting QB after Brees retired. This keeps Trey's head in the game and offers him actual in-game reps to develop. They can also tell his evolving proficiency in Kyles passing offense by actually comparing him to Brock in actual game and similar playcall scenarios.

I never bought this…so make the biggest move in franchise for a kid with 300 passing attempts and then say we can't wait for him to develop? What?

who at QB do we have that's some prime time all-pro vet making a ton of cash that we can't sit? Brock? Last i checked he's a rookie too. He made the most of his opportunities, but do we not think he's gonna hit some rough patches that almost all young QBs have? We gonna let that one play out, but not Lance? 100 random passing attempts is all you get lol. If Brock has two poor games. We benching him?

How in the world does that make him a better QB? Tossing him out has a Taysom Hill like player? All your doing is making him a glorified RB who might throw the ball once on a designed one read play.

I hate that idea. If Brock's the guy then play him. No random crap. If Lance is the guy play him. No sub package crap.

IMO none of these guys have a long leash. They aren't in the developing a QB business clearly. If you can't play then on to the next guy and so on and so on. It's wild because they got no problem dealing with the developmental process at every other position.
