I missed it, what did Trey say?

He said he worked his butt off, played great, and he learned from him. Deserves everything he got this season.
NO hate on Trey here... but I know for a fact that his performance this year will be under the microscope because of what B-Rock did this year..

20 games played since high school. Fewer than 320 college passing attempts. Not particularly fast or agile despite all the hype about his athleticism. Weird, elongated throwing motion that doesn't really mesh perfectly with a quick passing timing offense.

Tall and big arm are pretty much his main selling points.

I think there's a high degree of skepticism about him and its way worse outside the 49ers fanbase. If the Seahawks used 3 first round picks on a guy with one year of college starting experience in the FCS, we'd be mocking the hell out of them and you know it.

That said, I hope he proves his doubters wrong because if he does well then the team does well but I'm not huffing the hopium until he demonstrates the ability to be a consistent NFL passer.

This will be funny, I lobbied and gushed over this guy (Lance) all last training camp and preseason. Granted he did get injured, but nothing I saw in those limited games even approached what I saw from Purdy. Purdy who had one camp, zero NFL snaps, zero time (compared to Lance) with Shanny's playbook. And what did he do? He outplayed Lance in arguably every game except a playoff game againt a top three pass rush. Even in that game he did nothing to cost the 49ers the game, he played relatively clean. With Purdy, it was the first time I actually had confidence in the 49er offense in some time. So how does a guy with less hype, less experience, less "talent" come in and run Kyle's offense better than the guys with multiple seasons under their belt? I'm not sure I hate him, I just don't expect much from him in comparison to Purdy. Lance is all the 49ers have for at least the immediate future, so I will support him but also be first to call him out. WHo knows maybe #23 cures everybody.

It's pretty unbelievable. By all accounts he's seems like a great teammate. Good football IQ and yes the skill set is there…he's just super young with not a ton of football behind him. That in no way means he will suck. Just mean he's gotta play football to improve. Not that difficult to understand.

Some fans are petty and emotional. I would understand if you got 4 yrs of film on him, that's enough time to come up with a reasonable opinion of what he is. Kid has 100 passing attempts in the NFL. Facts are some people will never like him (for whatever reason). Some will never give him a chance to succeed and setup scenarios in their mind that in no way lead to success, then they can say….see I was right, which matters more I guess.

As a fan of this team, why in the world would you not want him to become good? why not give him the chance to improve? Capital is already spent, now let it play out. Why go out of your way to be an ass about it? Overall just really lame imo.
It's fine to be skeptical on Trey Lance but considering where the 49ers are at, I don't think it's productive to be dismissive.
Nobody on here hates Trey Lance the person, there are many on here including myself who think he has mediocre skills as an NFL QB in Shanny's offense, and will never be able to lead this team as a perennial super bowl contender.... He doesn't need more reps to prove himself, he had all offseason and camp last year as QB1, all of Shanny's attention and resources aimed at making him an effective QB and it only produced below average results- not good enough.

Look folks, here's the deal. We paid a kings ransom for this guy. He's given us the Trey Sermon level of availability / production. This is results business. Are you available? Are you productive? When that stuff flips and the answer is yes to both, we all will be singing the praises. With great investment, comes great expectations.

Lot of ways those three ones could have pushed us over the line each of the last two season, if one uses imagination, #6 and #7 already in the case perhaps. We were like 5 yards away from winning it all each of last two season, just needed a final push to the endzone, so to speak.

Which is like 25% of his total passing attempts since high school.

I hope he proves me wrong but I have this gnawing feeling that Wilson and Lance are the "bridge too far" QBs that were drafted as early as they were only because of the trend of teams wanting their own Pat Mahomes/Josh Allen. Someone was bound to get burnt eventually and I hope its just the Jets and not the 49ers too.

It's not hate; he's just on a different timeline than the rest of the team. They need to win NOW, and Trey is essentially Alex Smith 2.0.

Trey was the guy I wanted the team to draft, but he needed to play both last and this year, and now I think it's too late. Even if he ends up fulfilling most of his potential, the rest of the team will have aged out, and Trey will need a cap eating contract.

that's a good way to put it. Alex there are reasons he was # 1 overall pick. But he ways miles away as a rookie. With him we were in a down cycle and could afford to just let him take his lumps / develop. But it was slow and painful and took years.
