Everyone is an expert in hindsight

It ain't hindsight check the bold predictions thread I got the receipts. You are allowed to continually bring up the one time you are correct about something. What else are forums for.

So you just guessed and got it right. Congrats. But it wasnt based on anything you saw because anyone watching saw a qb who was completely lost.

I felt Hurts looked like a stud from the moment I saw him play his rook year. Not sure what everyone else was watching. Fields not nearly as strong at the drop back game, but he showed flashes vs MIA had a gorgeous pocket TD pass and a 2 pt conversion pass. The trick imho, as he gets tons of confidence with the legs moving chains, making plays, he starts to get more confident at the drop back stuff. If he develops the drop back pass game he's gonna be a star. With the Bears D gutted, they are going be chasing the game each week he will get his chances to drop back make plays.

Hurts was just out there bombing away, missing a lot of easy throws, hitting on deep passes but struggling everywhere else. We saw his issues on full display against the 49ers last year. It wasn't until late last season when his accuracy showed a noticeable improvement. Eagles fans were ready to dump him in favor of drafting a QB high in the 1st, now they wouldn't trade him for anything.

You can be conservative like JG or you can be reckless and dangerous like Jackson, Hurts and Fields. You can win with either style. You may not have great stats when you play reckless but you can get big scoring plays. Conservative play produces better stats like % and QBR but nit as many TD passes.

TL to me is pretty conservative and not sure if he has much LR voice. Warner brought up his conservatism was saying he's too conservative in practice and you should be the opposite. Don't be afraid of prax INTs, that's the time to let it fly and test out what you can do. I believe the coaching staff said he needs to improve his LR voice. Stuff to hope for improvement on.

I can see that. Coming from a small college program and an area that's generally conservative in life would tend to make him the same way. we'll see if he remains that way once he actually has a few games under his belt and feels more in control of the team. I like a QB that takes control and fires up his team. I noticed how Mahomes and Jackson walk up and down in front of the players talking to them and psyching them up. Even Brady does it when he feels it's necessary. I never really see Jimmy doing that. I guess it's not his style. He usually goes back to the bench and sits there by himself thinking or looking at his ipad. Not everyone has the fiery personality but I think it's contagious when the QB shows that.

However I do agree with you, you can't say someone is further along as a passer in the NFL when they haven't put that film out there. This is similar to the conversations people were having after the Week 1 game vs Chicago where we heard the "49ers selected the wrong QB" and yet Lance was the better QB in that game as far as NFL level throws. Yes Fields ended up with the W and made the TD throws when our defense blinked and gave him a broken play to take advantage of but you can't make a game plan that relies on the opposing defense creating key penalties on would be 4th down situations and take your TDs only when the defense has broken coverage.

What 49er fans SHOULD be concentrating on isn't that we took the wrong buy but the fact that Fields is DEVELOPING and looks to be getting confidence and improving with more and more time. Same as Tua, same as Jalen Hurts, same as Josh Allen. For the most part these guys need time. Not everyone can come out Mahomes level MVP style. Patience is key. It will pay off.

Hurts is balling like crazy and he looked borderline remedial as a passer early on despite having played at Bama and Oklahoma. It's way too early to write off Lance. The talent is undeniable, it's just a matter of consistency and that can't come without regular snaps.

Sure you did...

Must be nice to pick and choose when you like someone who is clearly limited as a passer to be impressed about.

Does this trigger you for some reason? You may have been one of the guys claiming Minshew was better than Hurts and would be starting by Week 8 perhaps. I had to listen to that for much of the offseason..

I can admit I have no crystal ball on QBs. For example, I thought TL could perhaps have a Mahomes type year 2 thanks to our system, players around him, and his abilities which they saw enough to invest the three ones. I got that one very wrong.

You got it wrong because of an injury not his play.

Well I mean Mahomes didn't open 5 qtrs with no TDs.. I think game one he was balling. You think he would have had the Mahomes year if not for the injury?

Mahomes also didn't open in that level of rain.

I don't know what could've happened had he been healthy.

What I do know is the only way to have sustained success in the NFL is having an elite QB. Figure out if Lance is the guy and if he's not adjust accordingly.

Maybe Purdy is the one. The fact he is being asked to dress every game as QB2 tells me KS trusts him if anything should happen to JG.

I expected/hoped for a Hurts like 1st year and 2nd year trajectory from Trey, and still do next year. How many TDs should TL have had playing 5 quarters in a hurricane?

It wasn't 5 qtrs in a hurricane lol and more than 0

Follow up then, in those 5 quarters of torrential downpour, you believe Mahomes would have scored more TDS running the ball between the tackles? Because that's about all Trey did. To make it easier for you, why don't you just pick out the plays Mahomes would have scored on that Lance didn't.
