Trey didn't get hurt in the Green Bay game...he banged his knee at some point in the Zona game, Lance no anyone else really knows when it happened. Could have been on a run play or in the pocket. The finger injury was in preseason vs Oakland where he smashed his hand of a Raiders helmet. That's about as fluky as it gets
my mistake. sorry.. my point still stands,.. keeping jimmy cuz you are afraid trey will get hurt is a terrible reason for keeping jimmy

Unless Trey gets seriously hurt before Jimmy is traded or released. At that point you don't have much choice, and neither does he.

Oh they ain't keeping Jimmy. Not for $27M
I'm bored today so wanted to focus on all of Trey's snaps to see what positives (only) I could take away as to things we can get excited for going forward. It's almost Trey Era!

Pre season - KC
Tosses are clean
Handoffs are soft for RB's
Handoffs and fake handoffs look the same
Clean shot gun snaps (Brendel)
Accurate sideline throws and they get there quickly (avoid pick 6 opportunities)
PA play fakes (fake handoffs) are believable. These look like they could be naked nearly every time
Explosives (opposite field TD to Sherfield)
Off schedule to throw and he's accurate on the move (lots of drops though). Looks to at least intermediate vs. open check downs
4 sacks + strip fumble but he gets low to avoid the big hits
His screen passes are very quick/accurate and lead to big gains
Poise throwing from the EZ (explosive to Woerner)

Pre season - LAC
Throws it away
Changes angle of throws with accuracy
Quick release when he sees it
Explosive (Sherfield)
Rush for 2 points
Sacked but natural move to space
Run for the first down off pressure
Sees it, rips it
Nice throws across his body
Beautiful TD to Benjamin but first looking the S off

Pre season - LV
Threat of him on a keeper helps the inside run game inside the RZ
Keeps it for a TD
Good mobility after the fake, backing up and then resetting and throwing (reset new platform)
Scrambled and got out of bounds to stop the clock (heady)
Scrambled and dove down to avoid a big hit
Chose the 1on1 on a shot play and got a P.I.

Regular season - AZ
Quickly takes the rushing lane upon pressure
Showed good patience/timing on set up on a screen
Hard count drew a 5 year penalty
Good patience in own EZ again and rush for first down
Excellent athleticism to throw it away and save yards in the RZ
Beautiful timing/touch to Juice on 3rd down
Clutch timing trust route to Sanu on 4th down
2 sacks
Throwing it away
Chunk throw to Aiyuk on 2nd and 25 & Deebo
Took a big shot from Chandler Jones (tough)

Regular season - HOU
Jimmy-like QB sneak
Poise again backed up to Aiyuk on a scramble drill
Across body throw to Sherfield
Excellent threads to Deebo, Aiyuk & Kittle
Rollout naked boot for a TD to Mitchell
Mobility handoffs to Mitchell
Cross field TD to Deebo this time
Rushing TD

Things to Improve Upon/Watch:
Accuracy (esp. high) = INT's
Too much heat at times
Tries to throw through a defender
Holds the ball too long at times (higher Time to Throw)
Scrambles into sacks (but away too) esp. coming up the A and B gaps
Susceptible to strip sacks
Throws a lot of interceprable balls
Streaky, clunky drives (3 and outs)
Designed inside rushes aren't always effective
Dives into the back of OL legs
Takes big shots (out in space and at the EZ)
Scrambles lead to holdings on the OL or on the outside by the WR's
Not as quick or fast laterally to get outside
One read and gun
Tipped passes (telegraphing)
Recognizing the free rusher
Clock and pre snap management
Didn't see drop defender (INT)
Need to see the 4 minute offense
Need to see more passes in the middle of the field
Slow starts

Overall
Just a ton to be excited about. Most of his concerns/watch list will be rectified with just more experience and focus. Some will be long standing issues too but most will drop off over time.

get rid of jimmy before pre season.. keeping jimmy cuz you are afraid trey will get hurt is silly in my opinion

Didn't Trey hurt himself twice last season without hardly playing?

Let it be the worst injury he has to deal with in his career.

The finger injury was a fluke and kind of crazy how many finger injuries happened to QBs last year. The knee injury was definitely on Kyle for that game plan. I'm hopeful and confident we won't see another game where we see that many designed run to Trey.
The finger was an obscure injury I agree, but blaming the knee injury on Kyle is pulling.. He was clunky last season, Excited but I'm not holding my breath for a Herbert/Mahomes

Don't see anywhere in my post where I anointed him the next Herbert/Mahomes. Trey still has a long way to match their pass attempts past high school if he starts this whole season. Pretty sure both guys had over 1000 pass attempts in college while Trey had slightly over 300.

And Kyle drawing up so many designed run plays for that game definitely didn't help him stay healthy. That's why he should get some blame. Yea you drafted Trey to use his legs so draw up some but he was basically our lead back in that game. Cannot have that.

He just wasn't ready to start as a rookie, which anyone who knows anything about football knew when we drafted Trey. Kyle and John were up front about the situation from the start, hence Jed mentioning he had no problem paying Jimmy for two more years if he needed to. It's still a legit question for many though, but I have faith that if he is what kind of guy they say he is, he's in a great position to have success, if not immediately, then not to far in the future.

Jed has already said he doesn't mind paying Jimmy if he needs to. I don't think he'll need to barring an unforseen injury. But don't think for one minute that if they think they need him that they mind spending the money. Maybe, if the need arises, they try to spread that money out by reworking a deal. Let's just hope the need doesn't arrive.

Nice work NC, I'm curious about the clock and pre snap management. I don't think we had a single delay of game or Timeout to save one with Trey in (I remember commenting on that for the Texans game) where did you see it?

I also didn't see the one read and gun you talk about, definitely saw him go through his progressions a good few times.

Thanks...just for fun during the downtime.

Actually yeah, for a rookie he did really well. I can't remember which game but he had to call a TO because the clock had run out. Also, things like his cadence or miscommunication on play calls might have lead to a couple false starts. But not positive...just something to watch for mostly in the 4 minute offense or if we go no huddle/hurry up.

The one read and gun is basically our offense because Kyle does such a masterful job of scheming open the primary. I saw some look offs and a couple progression reads but overall, he didn't have a ton of opportunities (nor needed them). The mass majority were quick one and two step drops (quick screens, outside and slants). The trusting of the primary can be a blessing and a curse.

Lance is not "one read and gun." He goes through progressions. His weakness is that he's been slow to pull the trigger sometimes.

That should hopefully Improve with playing time/experience.

Hopefully so. This is one of the things I was wary about with him in college. But, he has shown that he can quickly fire it in. It's just a matter of improving consistency.
Looking forward to hearing about Trey in his second TC - hopefully, he'll step up to the challenge of being QB1 for this team.

TC can't get here soon enough.

Read the post directly above yours.

And yes, he's a progression QB.
