So Chris Ballard didn't give Micah Parson, Jamarr Chase, Christian Slater or Penei Sewell a blue card?

Micah Parsons & chase had off field issues

And Christian Slater was busy working on his acting career, moving to TV primarily from movies

From an article in the news feed where Fred Warner is talking about Lance's development.

"Fred Warner revealed this week that, at one point, he had to pull Lance aside and explain that it was OK for him to make mistakes during practice on the scout team. It would make him a better player in the long run. The competitor in Lance didn't want to make any mistakes. Warner said, "So I had to kind of pull him to the side and be like, 'Hey, Trey, listen. This is your time to make mistakes and to try to fit balls into tight areas, kind of just make it hard for yourself, go out there and just see what you can do. Because out here [on the practice field], it doesn't matter. You're not trying to win a game. You're trying to get better as a player.'"

What a stiff that Warner is, giving out such bad advice. I mean EVERYBODY knows you can't improve as a player by just running the scout team.

Warner is saying just let it rip in practice, see what you can do. It's actually excellent advice

Well, duh! The point is that the common "wisdom" in this thread has been that the only way Lance can improve is by playing and that he should have been playing from the start, which A was never going to happen and B for someone who was as raw as he was coming out of college there would have been little benefit to throwing him out there without first giving him a solid grounding in what it takes to play QB in the NFL. By almost all accounts his play has grown tremendously in the last month thanks to Warner's advice and now, if he is called upon to help the team through a play off run he is much better positioned to do so and has accomplished it without the added burden of being a really inexperienced rookie trying to carry the load of a team's Super Bowl expectations (warranted or not) from the get go. I think he has been put in a much better position to succeed and I don't have any issues with him getting the start if Jimmy can't go. In fact I think I would almost prefer to see him play just because I don't want that thumb injury being an excuse for them to lose. Go with the healthy guy who no one has seen for two months. I am completely down with that. Go Niners!
I'm a Jimmy G guy, but I called it earlier in the season.

Trey is going to start again sooner or later via injuries or covid.

ONE THING I ABSOLUTLEY HATE about Kyle is that he doesn't rest his players or sub them in as much.

Niners played had to play the lowly Falcons on Sunday . Flew over to Nashville and had to play Tenn on Thursday.

IMO he SHOULD have subbed in alot more guys in the 4th of the Atlanta game, and /or had Trey start first half of Tenn game. IDK but with that rare qb depth you have more options than just rolling with only one.

Plenty of articles, players, coaches backing up that Lance is far from lazy and is all football…he's a film junkie and multiple reports said he was the smartest (football IQ) of all the rookies during the draft process.

I've talked about how Chris Ballard, who some think is one of the best talent evaluators in the league gave only Lance and D smith their "blue card" for 1st rd prospects on their big board….he said that designation is for prospects that have everything you want in a player and they want as many of those guys as they can get during the draft….So it wasn't just SF that was convinced in this kid.

So Chris Ballard didn't give Micah Parson, Jamarr Chase, Christian Slater or Penei Sewell a blue card?

Nope, the blue card is also about football character, he and their HC define that as….

"define football character as a player's work ethic, passion for the game, football intelligence, competitive nature, and teamness. If any of these areas are weak, the chances of the player busting and not fitting in our locker room becomes greater. An NFL season is long and hard. The character of each individual player and the entire team shows up, either good or bad, during the hard times. It is difficult to get through a rough stretch if your players don't have mental toughness.

When we are in draft meetings, we talk about each player's football character at great length to determine if a player fits our draft board. If a player meets our strict criteria in terms of his football character, he is given a blue card. There might be 10 or 12 blue cards in the entire draft and we want to pick as many of these players for our locker room that we can"

Yup and Kyle even referenced that. Now he needs experience and coaching.

Gonna be funny reading the posts in here after Trey has been QB for a season. He'll get the same crap that JG got from the s called 49er fans here. But when JG got ripped on here we had a prospect in the wings, but we won't have one waiting for Trey to fall from grace. This will be interesting to watch unfold.

Yup, the Trey haters gonna be wild next season. Hopefully he comes out great and shuts them up.

I'm curious to see what excuses will be recycled, and what complaints will be the same as those hurled at JG. There is plenty of room for crossover, both in complaints and for those that jump ship.

Sadly it's gonna be the Jimmy homers, if most don't leave with him, who are gonna be the ones over critical of what would basically be his rookie year.

Jimmy has been in the league for 8 years and got his FQB contract. If you can't see why people are critical of Jimmy, then I really don't know what to say bc obviously nothing will change your mind when it comes to him.

You are apparently missing reading comprehension skills.

4 years of Jimmy was on the bench. He's basically a 4 year player.

Haha....the background checks on these 2 would instantly pop.

Horrible point. Should someone fire back with Shanahan saying the way to get better is by playing?

It's not a groundbreaking revelation that you practice to get better. It's also not rocket science that gamedays are the true test that you learn and get better from much more than practice.

This is going nowhere fast.
Just so excited Trey will have Kittle for this game. Obviously his receiving will be a huge bonus, but also his blocking, and especially his leadership out there will be priceless. Obviously hope Trey steps into that leadership role as soon as he's ready, but having George's voice out ther encouraging him, building his confidence is gonna be invaluable.
hope he dominates and never looks back
