Trey looked a bit all over the place to begin with which is understandable. He then calmed down and looked better and showed some flashes of why we went for him.
Most of the other rookies have had all the 1st team reps in training. Fields maybe didn't but then he looked awful the other week and better this week. Rookies will look really poor at times and really good at times, they're going to be inconsistent, especially to begin with.
Jimmy is still Jimmy. He doesn't really have an excuse as to why he is inconsistent.
I think you roll with Trey now, but that's very easy to say as a fan.

He is not ready. To me, he is a 3-year project like Josh Allen. By that I mean the chances are only by Year 3 we will know whether he is boom, serviceable or bust.
When Kap started in his 2nd year, that is my definition of ready. He absolutely killed it. But, whether we were or rather weren't able to further develop him that's another topic of discussion.

Our receivers really need to work on the scramble drill this week. Almost every time he broke the pocket guys were not looking for green grass or coming back to Trey. The one play where Aiyuk turned around to block then didn't then did was a prim example.

Not to mention - all of those guys pretty much got most of the snaps in the training camp and were prepared to be starter in week 1.
Ppl really hating on the kid. Draft is over. It's ok if you were not 100% right or we didn't draft the QB you wanted - you don't have to give disingenuous takes on this kid. It's clear that he can play this game. He looked better in 4th quarter than he did in 3rd quarter and I think he'll get better than better after every 2-3 games under his belt.
...and I just don't see anything where I felt - he is more raw than other QBs drafted in 1st round. In fact - he showed nice poise on some of the runs. He also converted multiple 4th down on the last drive and made some nice throws. Yes, he also had some bad throws but that's to be expected.
Yup, fans are gonna have to deal with the ups and downs of a young rookie QB….it's part of the process, he's got the tools, coaching, roster to help him until he feels completely confident in his reads.
but yea there will be people hating on him every step of the way because "he wasn't my pick"

And Josh Allen played that whole time, that's what got him to where he is now. Fans gotta deal with the butt plays in the beginning, it's part of the process when you draft a QB early.
I was fine with Jimmy starting for as long as possible, I also realize the best way to get Lance better is to actually play football at some point.
we will see how it goes, I won't be one of the guys saying he's a bust if he doesn't play well right off the bat because I knew what the process was gonna entail. I can weather the storm because I have faith in this kid and our coaches to put him in a spot to succeed….s**t takes hard work and time, but not sure all the fan base thinks like that (not saying you)

I'm glad he got to play and all for the development going forward but that just means we've pretty much thrown any chance at the playoffs out the window for this season. AZ is really gonna give Trey a learning experience next week.

Josh Allen did have to play to get to where he is today. But, it isn't totally true that fans need to deal with the butt plays which was why I brought up Kap. You do remember we went to the Super Bowl the year we started him right? And it wasn't even a full season. But, by God Kap was ready, at least much more so than Lance. You could argue success takes hard work and time, sure which was why Kap never started as a rookie even though Harbaugh had always wanted to start his own QB ASAP as he knew Alex Smith wasn't it.
I don't know what the answer is since Jimmy is not healthy for now and he seems to have been figured out by teams. I don't know whether Jimmy or Lance will win more games, that is if you still have any aspirations in winning now? If not, we could be talking about another 3 years of teething pain and quite possibly losing seasons. Just saying.

We all knew we have a playoff caliber roster. Sadly we lost one of three guys we couldn't afford to lose week 1: Verret, Bosa and Trent Williams imo.....and now we worry about TW too... sheesh.
I'll take everyone staying healthy and let the young players actually play and learn. As well as our defensive coordinator.
I think we could still win around 10-11 games and make the playoffs, but as you hinted that's very tough with this division. More likely middle of the road and just miss playoffs. That doesn't enrage me IF we see that improvement throughout the season and stay healthy lol

You play the rookie and let him develop if the season is lost. It's still too premature for that. There's a long list of qb's who sat their rookie the entire year and did just fine in year 2. Patrick Mahomes, Tom Brady to name a few.
I think going back to Jimmy until the season is lost is the proper call. The NFL is set up to play for now. If we play Lance and go 6-10 Shanny's seat is getting real hot. That's 4 out of 5 losing seasons.

Kelse would have caught that.

It might not go as you think. This is gonna be tough for a rookie.
I know it's going to be tough..... But we need to know how that heavy Franchise investment is going to handle it and how Kyle is going to unleash the plays he supposedly has come up with for Lance! I expect lumps.... But I'm also going he shows some promise...
This will force Kyle to keep it simple offensively. That may end up being the best thing for this team right now.

I think Trey looked really fidgety and just uncomfortable to start which is understandable. As the game went you could see him calm down. You can see the errant throws while hiking the ball and Trey would calmly snatch them with one hand and get into his reads. Seattle went balls to the wall with their pass rush as soon as he came in and it looked like our line couldn't pass block anymore. The kid didn't get any favors, from his center, the pass rush, the whole o-line or his coach. I thought Kyle could call some more boots and crossing patterns to help the kid gain some confidence early. Although he has to get credit on the long TD from Deebo he called that at a perfect time. All said and done 150yds passing with 2 tds and no picks ain't bad for this kind of start for a rookie. And yes there was one dropped pick but that was because of the velocity which for me personally wipes the slate clean and the Wagner "almost pick" wasn't really. In the second angle you can clearly see he just tipped the ball. No chance of a catch there.
The velocity thing is interesting. I did see him take the mustard off on one pass across the middle so maybe he is learning. I still think on the Wagner play that if the velocity was lower the reciever may have been able to catch that but on the reverse end Wagner might have gotten there in time had it been a tick late. Also the actual dropped pick might have been held on to if he took anything off the throw. Something he'll have to figure out is when to throw the strike and when it's wide open enough to take a little off.

The way Lance runs is very Wilson like - but he's so much bigger than Wilson. That's scary - to have that kind of agility in a QB at that size. So, you have to be worried about him making you miss or run thru your arms - if you attack instead of wait and make sure you get him.
Somewhere Kyle is sitting with a pen and a boner.

If its a screen, checkdown, or a boot to the flat, he should learn to throw soft. But I'm fine with him throwing fast balls if its beyond the sticks. Its real nice not throwing ducks to the defense like with Mullens

That toss flea flicker thing we tried where Kittle was wide open and Jimmy G under threw it. Lance makes that throw and puts Kittle in the end zone. That's all I know. He probably can't make all the throws that Garrapalo can right now, but that play is a perfect example of why our offense is limited.
It wasn't massive under throw lol. Why would he risk throwing that to Deebo in stride when there is no defender near by? Lol you've never played this game. You don't purposely make it more difficult for yourself or your receiver.
They're getting desperate,...lol.
I mean - wtffff is that? There were a few bad throws from Lance. Criticize those. Enough to pick from. Why he has to pick the one which was actually a perfect throw. It was an easy throw - but right where it should have been. Dude hates Lance.
I think hitting him in stride is a better option however the rookie was just thrown into a game with no warning. He probably couldn't believe his eyes and just got it to him. Better than trying to be fancy and letting the jitters affect the outcome. Take the safer throw and hope we still get the td which we did so no harm no foul.
