The WRs you mentioned don't have great top line speed but JJ is straight up slow. He can still win with size, but being slow is going to hamper his ability to win on the outside. He'll have to refine his route running to make up for the lack of speed. To your point, this staff isn't shy about projecting players into different roles that they played in college (Warner, TMoore, DJ Reed), so it's quite possible they try JJ on the outside.
If Hurd is healthy, I think JJ will need to show he provides value as a special teamer to be suited up on gameday. Would JJ get cut if Hurd is healthy? There are too many WRs 'on the bubble' (RJames, Pettis, TTaylor). The only locks I have are Bourne, Deebo, Aiyuk, healthy Hurd. If Hurd is healthy, I think JJ is on the bubble. But who knows at this point, they haven't even practiced.

I don't really disagree there. I will say that I have T. Taylor as a near-lock. And in my projected 53 I do have J. Jennings making the team. Jennings is slow, but honestly I really don't think he was drafted for his speed. He has a different skill-set sorely needed on the roster. I think he was drafted for his physicality and YAC ability. He'll be a key target to keep the chains moving. None of the "bubble" WRs on the roster have Jennings' ability. One thing for sure, he's not lasting two minutes on the PS.

7th rounder*. The reason he was drafted so late was mostly due to character issues. With that being said TO was a freak.
Plus he ran like a 5.2 40

If Taylor is healthy and twitchy like his normal self, I do think he earns a spot. He and Jimmy had some chemistry and provides a unique skillset from the slot. So let's assume Taylor makes the team. That's 5 (Deebo, Aiyuk, Bourne, Hurd, Taylor), and I don't think the team keeps 7. It's a fight between Pettis, JJ, RJames with special teams value possibly being the deciding factor.
I think there's some overlap in skillet between JJ and Hurd with Hurd being the superior athlete. If JJ is viewed as purely a slot guy, then I think he has a tough uphill climb with Taylor and Hurd in the mix at slot.

Fully agreed. He's a guarantee to the PS esp. now after the Jordan Reed signing because of the slot snaps will now be shared between Kittle, Reed, Hurd and Taylor.
That 6th will most likely go to the veteran Kyle loves in Travis Benjamin because of his stretch speed and return skills. IMHO, of course.

In my 53 projection I have 5 locks - Deebo, Aiyuk, Bourne, Hurd, and Taylor as a near lock for the very reason you laid out. I do have JJ making it, but I wouldn't be upset if Travis Benjamin got that 6th spot. In an event, I do not see Pettis making the team in 2020 at all. I just like what JJ brings, but you are correct, he and Hurd do have a similar skill-set with Hurd being a better athlete. But to me JJ's physicality and TAC ability is crazy. Those are skill-sets that keep the chains moving. If JJ don't make the 53 I do hope he's one of the protected PS guys.

If he can be anything close to Mohamed Sanu in this offense, I'll be stoked
