This is great news! Gonna say this again, I just don't see how Pettis makes the final 53. Now, with the signing of Jennings, a 7th rounder, to a 4 year deal I am guaranteeing that that Pettis won't make the 53. Remember, most here had Jennings on the practice squad. I had him making the team the day of the draft. In a normal WR draft I don't think Jennings would have gotten out of the 4th or 5th round.

Just being able to see what he can do in camp when the ball is coming his way...

Did we think he wouldn't sign somehow?

Considering Deebo and James(doubt he was making the roster) are hurt and will be out all camp/preseason Dante definitely has a chance to rebound and make the roster.

Fare enough. But I have to ask: How/where do you see him fitting? The way I see it the only way Pettis makes this team is if we carry 8 WR's, which isn't happening at all. We'll likely carry 6, maybe 7 WR's. 6 of those are locks (or near locks):

I would hardly call Jennings a lock. He's a seventh round draft pick who looked painfully slow even in his college tape where players aren't as consistently fast as they are in the NFL. That you would have him making the team, perhaps over Taylor, is just, misguided. If Taylor is healthy he will make the team this year. I don't think that is a point that can be realistically argued. Depending on how Samuel's foot heals he may not even be available to start the season which is where one of the bubble guys might have an opportunity to stick around for a few extra weeks. I imagine the WR group will be Samuel, Bourne, Hurd, Taylor, and Aiyuk for sure with everyone else fighting for however many spots are left.

Depends on how he shows up at camp. He has had conditioning issues in the past. It was said he was somewhat winded running the 40 at the combine.

I think he has too much talent to not make the team, but we have no idea what his work ethic is going to look like at the pro-level. Often we can assume guys will bring their A game...in this case we cant.

Having said that, i think he can be absolutely stellar in the NFL. He does not have a sprinters form or foot work, his time is about as real world as it gets, he runs track like a WR. He never really got his weight off his front foot at the combine.

If he got in NFL shape, and really worked with a track coach...it would not shock me if he could run a high 4.5 or a low 4.6. So yeah the 40 time does not bother me.

The right question to ask, will JJ be 100% sold on being the best 49er WR he can be.

Again, i think he earns a spot on the 49ers and i think he could end up a house hold name...he has that much talent.

Mark my words here, Jennings will make this team, but Pettis won't, and shouldn't.

I thought all drafted rookies are guaranteed a 4 year contract and 1st round rookies have a built in 5th year option. Many players get put on the practice squad after signing their contract.

So, drafted players sign 4 year contracts based on their drafted position. If they make the 53, that's their contract. If they don't make the 53, then their contract is terminated? Then are all of these non-53 players, from all teams, eligible to choose which team's practice squad they want to sing with ? Does the team that drafted a certain player have '1st rights' to their drafted player?

correct on the original contact. The players that have been cut can only choose which PS to be on, is if they get offered a PS spot by whichever team.
