Why? Did he already start acting like a BA 2024 off-season level a*****e?

Ya'll got offended because BA wanted a trade. Go read the thread. How dare he do such a thing….you had people in there saying they should have given his cash to JJ "team player, he would never do that" lol

NOW he's doing the same thing. People can't separate business from football and get all bent out of shape over it.

This. It's common, and fans have short memories.

He has one season where he performed well above his career level so it makes sense for him to try to maximize his money based on that season before his game falls off this year playing at a less optimal position and he's going to start as the target for a defense. They are going to put him on the line and he's going to get press man with a safety over and have to win every snap as the focus.

He needs to try for the money now ... will the team go for it though is the question.

After the year he had last year and the fact that BA won't be available and Deebo is gone, I'd say pay him. He outplayed his contract big time. He's actually underpaid, and we need his veteran presence on the field with so many young WRs.

Pay him what though? How much do you think he is worth keeping in mind we have a salary cap and something like 92M in dead $. I like JJ and want to keep him but has to be a deal we can afford. He ain't getting a black cheque.

Dead money doesn't matter.

anything sub $20m per year would be fair for both parties

When players and their agents decide thye want more money they just say pay me or trade me. They contracts don't mean much to them. It's only binding to the team. I imagine Jennings will want more guartanteed money since that's the current thing for contracts.

I understand why the players want guaranteed money but it really puts the team in a bind if the player gets injured. Look what happened to the Bucks with Lillard. He tore his achilles the first year with them and now they owe him $112 million over the next 5 years. The Niners got burned last year when Aiyuk missed nearly the entire season right after he held out for more money. It can happen very qucikly in football.

Give him the Khalil Shakir contract.

If he wants $25 to $30M then we have a problem, and I don't see any team biting on that.

We created this 'process' a few years ago with Debo, then Bosa. The degrees of their hold outs were different, then BA we should have just traded if we really had 1sts offered.

There's some teams that just have a hard stance against these hold out/social media diversions. We unfortunately helped make them what they are.

This seems entirely reasonable for me to go ask my boss one year after signing a deal ...

He might get something close to it, but probably on another team

Yeah the Bangles which is the worst way to do it.

He can ask for whatever he wants but he is capped to what the team trading for him would pay. And nobody in the league is giving him north of $20m. If so, he should he traded to that team. If it's less than $20m then the Niners should make it happen.

$20m is just not a consequential figure in today's nfl. Also, you can get out of these deals in two years anyways. It's a total nothing burger.

Pretty much, love to have both JJ/BA on the team long-term. They're gonna do what's best for them and no one should be offended by that imo.

I'm not sure SF is gonna pay him what he wants. We will see.

Also, they have to wonder what Pearsall, Cowing, and Watkins can do. If they are high on them JJ is not a priority etc.

How does dead money not matter? Dead money and void years are a major issues in cap management.

Stop giving in to these divas. This team never going to win s**t if they keep caving in.
Antics aside, i think that is what people find offensive and unrelatable. Mult million dollar players asking for more while under contract and its all about me while i decide to hold out at the most inopportune time. This is not an option for most fans.
JJ is look at a big prove-it year, he wants to be paid like he already proved it (he hasn't).

I suspect what will happen is he'll get a new deal that the agent can say is a big win when in reality the options heavily favor the team.
