Amazing how quick fans are to throw a player under the bus. Two seasons ago we were calling Buckner our best player. Now I see some saying Kinlaw will be a big upgrade over Buckner even though he hasn't played a game yet. He may end up being better but let's not forget how good Buckner was for this team.

it's because Bosa gave us what a moster DL should look like and buckner is not it.

Buckner is good, but i expected him to have a better year than he had with all the help at DL

Buck was a stud and everything you want in a player...I'll root for him in Indy. Kinlaw shouldn't have to live up to his standards of last yr. if we can get anything close to what we got fro Buck his rookie yr this yr to Kinlaw I'll be pumped.

Correct. Ted Washington wasn't that good when he was with the Niners. He was very effective with the Bills and other teams.

s**t I kind of forgot he became a premiere NT after he left SF

His size/length/strength alone will put a stress on the Rams/AZ/Seattle's IOL...once he gets more polished he should be able to take on those top end interior guys.

Who knows what to expect in a rookie season, but this kid flashes from what I have seen. I have somewhat higher hopes since the rest of the line is ridiculous in their own right meaning he could be getting the best matchups. I recall quite a few scouts saying he is simply too powerful and fast to block one on one. That alone creates chaos given the supporting cast and is simple enough for him to do in a rookie year.

Thats one of the many reasons I hate the cap, you end up losing great players, and it really forces teams to draft well every year. Going to miss Buckster, but I'm totally excited to see if Kinlaw can make Defensive rookie of the year.

Mooch and Erickson were offensive minded head coaches and neither ran the 3-4 defense during their tenure. I don't think. Jim Mora Jr. was D coordinator around that time he runs the Tampa 2. That's a 4-3 alignment. Nolan was the first coach to run the 3-4 and it worked quite well. The defense was never the problem. It was drafting Alex Smith over Aaron Rodgers and watching the offense stink it up for years. Offensive coordinator after offensive coordinator, excuse after excuse.

Erickson is not underrated btw. He sucked

You hate the cap?!
The NFL is a decent product because of the cap.
If there wasn't a cap, Dallas would have the most dominant team in The NFL by far every year.
And Jed York is not Eddie DeBartolo. Not close.

ACTUALLY, it was Mooch who SUCKED big time ... he had an easy 2 SUPER BOWL teams and just did not know how to drive a LAMBO..

Erickson was a disaster from the get go.... GM Terry Donahue brought him from Oregon State after he turned that program around, but he never gave Erickson any chance to win with his type of players.

First - he never wanted Rashawn Woods.. he wanted his RB from Oregon State (Steven Jackson)

Second - he also did not want to trade Terrell Owens just for a stupid 2nd and backup DT from the Eagles.

Buckner was a major reason for Bosas success and helped the rest of the dline eating majority of the double teams
BUCK - WHO ???

i agree he did take on some double teams, but that was more towards the begining of the season.

It's also one of the main reasons predictions for a dynasty or several SBs is a laugh. Every fan base does this when their team has a good year as if they are going to be able to keep the team together. With the average NFL career at 3.3 years you in effect turn over your roster that often. With the exception of a handful of key players the rest are always coming and going and some of the guys that go are pretty good. As we saw with Buckner, even key players get traded or cut to make room under the cap. Team chemistry is always changing and injuries make it even harder to predict long runs of success. It's not like it was before the cap and free agency.

I'll second that, and i will pull for Buck still....just not if he's facing us. That incidentally, is what separates a great F.O from a usual F.O. It took a lot of chutzpa to trade Buck, but looking at numbers, we just couldn't pay that much for the tremendous talent he had. But F.O was way ahead of us and traded for that #14 slot which they turned into a winner. True Javon hasn't played a down yet, but i don't think there is any give up in this guy and he will match our overstated expectations. Just to reread his story, growing up, going to school, college, the whole 9 yds. The guy is exceptional even if he never played a snap.

But i suspect he will play many snaps for us over the yrs.
