Proposal: NFL teams play every other week...

I meant half of the teams would play one Sunday and Monday, then the other half would play the following week. Each time would have two weeks to prepare and heal bodies.

Instead of having a 17 or 18 week season, we will have 32 weeks to watch the NFL! What do you guys and gals think?

I am already scared of the 7 months without football ahead of us but if you cut down the off-season to idk 4 weeks, it wouldn't be enough to rest.

I don't know how that would work in scheduling.

The NFL already overlaps the MLB playoffs and the the NBA season. Adding another 16 weeks would have it overlapping the NBA and NHL playoffs as well. Scheduling nightmare for the networks. Too much of a goof thing is a sure way to kill it.

No. Football is this popular since the season is so short. Watching 32 weeks of football might kill that.

I was thinking more along the lines of how you're effectively splitting the league in half. One half playing this week, the other next week. Someone's going to have to play back to back a few times to get the schedule to work out. There would be more rest for sure, but the schedule would be crazy.

But really I just don't want to wait two weeks between 9ers games.

The only safety the owners are interested is the safety of their money and making more and more and more...........

And what am I supposed to do with the rest of my life? I can hardly wait a week for a game, I can't be sitting around for 2 weeks pining away for my niners

18 regular season games
60 man rosters
3 bye weeks

NFL gets 32 more games
Players get more rest
Season is only extended 2 weeks
Coaches get more flexibility with roster
Everyone wins

I'm cool with the 17 game 2 pre-season, 2 byes scenario bring kicked around.

Have the 17th game be at a neutral site so they can grow the game around other non nfl markets, Canada, Mexico, etc and it doesn't take away a home game.

Players get more money and less pre-season to hopefully offset the health issue and everyone wins.

No. Too long of a season. I'd be burned out. The offseason is also destroyed. I am in favor of 2 bye weeks (I remember this happened at least one season in the 90s, or I think it did) and the elimination of Thursday night games, save for Thanksgiving. Keep the preseason at 4 games. They already have limited padded practices. The preseason is not about the stars. It's for rookies and bubble guys. Also, why do we need 18 games? I wish there was a focus on actually making the game better. I'd like more equitable pay amongst positions. Example- quarterback IS the most important position, but all quarterbacks do not deserve these huge salaries. It's awful that below average guys get paid 10-15 million just because they play quarterback, poorly at that.

I'm perfectly okay with limiting blows to the head, but wish more defensive holding was allowed. Why? Apparently our Dline isn't the only Dline held egregiously. You could legit call holding on offensive line guys on almost every play. I do not like that the rules are designed to help the offense. Keeping the players safe is fine (example- no more Rodney Harrison's patrolling the field to light up a guy as soon as he catches the ball), but that Legion of Boom style of holding is alright by me if everyone is allowed to do it. What's worse is that with these rules favoring the offense, the way the game is reported also shows that bias (see that final pass to the Seahawks TE in our regular season finale). The guy runs right into Fred Warner drawing contact, then wants to draw a flag. The offenses are allowed to get away with far too much.
