What did the farmer say when he saw three holes in the ground?

Here we are after all the simping for Wish.

Either Boyer wasn't a fan or he hasn't recovered well enough from his injury last year, or a combo of the two.

We got six seasons out of him. If we got six seasons out of every draft pick we'd be the best drafting team of all time.
I love this off season

Wishnowsky, just like Moody, is a perfect example of the Niners falling in love with a prospect (based off a need) then overdrafting them because they are afraid to let the draft come to them and don't have certain contingencies in place if said player is picked before their turn.

Or they simply had circumstances where they knew they were going to draft the position, evaluated the available draft picks, and chose the guy they liked the most when it came time to pick.

It's a *good thing* for them to not shake in their boots afraid of what the fanbase will think if they draft x player at x pick. Sometimes it seems 49er fans want nebbish and frightened coaches and execs up there who in a whiny voice declare "Oh, we didn't know how to draft anyone, so we just made a poll on 49erswebzone. Oh deary, don't blame us - we went with the consensus and wisdom of the fans."

I wonder if they'll bring him back at a reduced salary or if that injury he suffered never healed?

Decent? Was in the bottom 1/3 on all relevant statistics last season....he's been on a steady decline for years

Wishnowsky was a better punter. Better at directional punting, better at avoiding touch backs, better at getting punts inside the 20.

As evidenced by Wish's multiple pro bowls/all-pro selections.

i think it's a litmus test for who is really following the team and who doesn't really know much about football, at least special teams wise. if you don't appreciate what wish was doing, then you probably have no idea what was even going on, or what he was doing.

Back injuries can be problematic, especially with the torque a punter puts on his back. Likely best to not take a chance on him in 2025.

As a veteran of back surgery, I concur. I must have missed the articles about his back problems. You are right. Back injuries are more than just problematic. They can make daily life a living HELL. That said, Wish was never the punter I thought he would be. He came out of college with a great average and great promise. He averaged nearly 50-yards per kick during his first season at Utah. But he never came close to duplicating that with the 49ers.

Distance is not a good metric for a punter. Wish was very good at placing punts near the sideline, as well as leading the league, or high up, in punts downed inside the 20. During his time, the offense was quite good. It was unusual to be punting deep in their own territory, hence distance was rarely needed.

Yes, since it's only crappy players who make it to pro bowls/all-pro. Some how I missed that nuance.
You gonna sing the praises of Trey Lance and Aj Jenkins next? Keep simping son, keep simping.

Wish was solid when everything else around him, offense and defense, was playing at a high level. It consistently gave him field position where he just needed to down it in the 20 (which is a difficult task). He rarely helped out offense and defense with flipping the field position when we needed him. Our coverage didn't do any favors but wish didn't consistently either.

you need a punter to do more than just be able to drop it into the 20 when you have good field position to punt from.

He wasn't a bad punter but he wasn't anything special IMO. If he was some great talent that does stuff that others can't, he wouldn't have been cut. They'd of stashed him some where to let him heal up.
