Wishnowsky, just like Moody, is a perfect example of the Niners falling in love with a prospect (based off a need) then overdrafting them because they are afraid to let the draft come to them and don't have certain contingencies in place if said player is picked before their turn.

We got six seasons out of him. If we got six seasons out of every draft pick we'd be the best drafting team of all time.

Cut the decent punter but keep the absolute garbage kicker. Makes sense.

Wishnowsky was only a punter.
Wishnowsky was a better punter. Better at directional punting, better at avoiding touch backs, better at getting punts inside the 20.
As evidenced by Wish's multiple pro bowls/all-pro selections.

Back injuries can be problematic, especially with the torque a punter puts on his back. Likely best to not take a chance on him in 2025.

As a veteran of back surgery, I concur. I must have missed the articles about his back problems. You are right. Back injuries are more than just problematic. They can make daily life a living HELL. That said, Wish was never the punter I thought he would be. He came out of college with a great average and great promise. He averaged nearly 50-yards per kick during his first season at Utah. But he never came close to duplicating that with the 49ers.

i think it's a litmus test for who is really following the team and who doesn't really know much about football, at least special teams wise. if you don't appreciate what wish was doing, then you probably have no idea what was even going on, or what he was doing.
