Damn. Im gonna try to stay positive. Edge pressure is the #1 reason Im optimistic about this defense this year. Cant afford to lose Ford. Hope hes just sore

Play him and bosa on passing downs but Blair should play more snaps. My boy is a beast. Sign him to an extension before he gets too expensive.

typical niner fan, dumping on a player the minute they go down.![]()
They're only doing for the attention they don't get in the real world. No other reason to be so negative, but I guess it's their choice.
So back to the topic at hand, is he damaged goods or not? At which point will you say the 49ers got value out of the trade? How many sacks would he need to get for you to be satisfied for giving up a 2nd round pick for him?
I'd say no. It's the same as it was in KC. They will always have to manage his snaps. It is what it is. Keep him playing around half the snaps and be careful with how much he is used in practice. Be prepared to develop another edge rusher, because his presence (along with Bosa) has totally transformed this team. We don't want to lose that.
For me, all eyes are on AA and Thomas as the year progresses to see who should be moved. We need picks and can lighten the load at DT. Not a chance we spend an early pick on a pass rusher like Dee Ford, but 4th round is realistic to get a speedy guy to develop as a rotational guy who could start in small stretches later on down the line.
I can definitely get on board with this.

That's not what people are concerned about.

It doesn't fit their narrative so they won't chill. The bashing continues

Unless he retires or we win a Superbowl with him this year, we cant answer this for a few years, unfortunately.

Trading for Ford and giving him big money with a chronic knee wasn't smart.

I disagree and I think you can't afford not to continue to invest in that DLine - specially at edge rusher (if there are good ones available like a chase young). I know we probably wont get a chase young, but with a first we should continue to inveest in the edge rusher position.
you can see how different the Seifert/Carroll defense is with a credible pass rush. Personally I think you can get good DT's in the mid rounds (a la Julian Taylor) but you can only get good edge rushers via 1st through 3rd drounds (Landry, Obo, Celene etc...).

Personally, I think it's good value. Even with the chronic knee. This defense is a defense that rotates around the edge rusher. In other defenses, a Dee Ford may not matter so much. Bellicheats defenses don't need that elite edge rusher - they can get buy with good ones, because that defense relies on hybrid players and shifting fronts and deceptive coverages.
The Siefert/Carroll defense is essentially a nickel defense. It *needs* that elite pass rusher for it to operate at top form. It's like the difference between Mullens and Beathard. Mullens can operate kyles offense but BeatHard, when he's in there, the offense bogs down. For this defense, the edge rusher is really critical.

There should definitely be some cause for concern here.
