Big difference is Kolton Miller is a LT, McGlinchey is a RT, the top RTs look like this, not saying MM is a top RT.

Lane Johnson(Eagles) $18M APY $55.845M GTD($25M Fully)
Jack Conklin(Browns) $14M APY $30M GTD($30M Fully)
Taylor Moton(Panthers) $13.754M 1yr Franchise Tag
Ja'Waun James(Broncos) $12.75M APY $32M GTD($27M Fully)
Bryan Bulaga(Chargers) $10M APY $19.25M GTD($19.25M Fully)
La'el Collins(Cowboys) $10M APY $35M GTD($19,966,750 Fully)

Based on these numbers, if McGlinchey can improve his PP, I'm fine going $10M a yr, he's not better than Conklin, or Moton, Idk much about James, I think the Broncos signed him from Miami. Bulaga is older(32), while Johnson is 31, Conklin is 27, Moton 27, James 29, and Collins 28, as of the beginning of the 2021 season.

Good point. He's not worth that money, but who's to say he doesn't want to go to LT when he hits free agency. I'm thinking of the similar theme was the Ravens RT - Brown.

That's very encouraging. Work on that base and technique just as hard. Contract year. Trying to earn that $10.8M 5th year option.

Issue is that 5th yr option has to be picked up by May 3rd, and apparently it's now fully GTD once the option is exercised, it used to be GTD for injury, and fully on the first day of the new league year, but apparently with the new CBA in 2020, the option is fully GTD, Idk what the 49ers do with McGlinchey, I can't see how you can GTD $10.88M unless you know 100% that he's the guy and will extend him for less in 2022.

I say we trade McG during draft day to a OT-needy team. Brunskill can totally play this position and we can draft a replacement this or next season. We have time. You also have Coleman on the team who can come in and still be an effective swing tackle.
BUT BUT BUT BRUNSKILL WILL GET RAGDOLLED AND THROWN OFF SCREEN SNAP AFTER SNAP ..... oh wait

LOL - agreed.

The drop-off between McG and Brunskill today isn't worth what we'll pay for that 5th year option.

Been saying this for a while trade him and get his replacement this year. May require a small trade up but the compensation you get for him will cover it. Plus if they do this right they will get draft picks for Jimmy also. Too many good players coming up that will need contacts. A lot of one year deals if they play to there potential will be priority signing next year.

Or we keep him for his rookie 4th year, exercise the option, and then trade him in the offseason ala Buckner style.

Don't you have to exercise the option before the end of the 4th year?

We have until May. Id have him in open competition with Brunskill. May the best man win.
MM is thinking "Please don't draft Jones, I can't block for him"

yeah and then if he plays like garbage you are stuck with him at 10 mill. and then he walks you get a meager comp pick and have to draft his replacement.Or you can have a rookie if picked from lets say 33-43 his salary range will be 1.5 to 1.3 mil. You can sign or extend several players with that. Next year you have alot of important free agents. If Mosely Verret or Williams ball out you could sign one mabey two of them with that money.

Yep, McG isn't $9M per year better than Brunskill. I'm also for trading him in this draft and getting a pick and even drafting another RT to develop.

Or target Brian O'Neill with the Jimmy and Glinch savings in 2022 if Brunskill doesn't run with the job.

Definitely want another tackle. Honestly I could go for a future center, another guard, and tackle.
Mcg and Gigolo for low round first get a top two tackle. Then draft 3 edges. Finish with a backup QB.
they will pickup his option
