Yeah, if true that story indicates Brady is essentially running the Pats and not BB.

Yes, that's what it looks like. If the Kraft interference stories are true B.B. will surely hang it up sometime this year or early next.

It's why McDaniels stayed.

Just following up, I subscribe to the Simms and Lefkoe podcast which is actually really excellent NFL content with Simms having great contacts and inside knowledge.
Simms has been talking the last few weeks about the New England situation with information from his contacts there and his understanding is that BB wanted to move on from Brady with Jimmy as the franchise QB starting in 2018. He spoke with Kraft about this and some of the staff and it was leaked by them, or Kraft, to Brady who then told Kraft he was going to play till he was 45 and forced Kraft to tell BB to back down and trade Jimmy.
Kraft is a billionaire but even he makes mistakes, by letting Jimmy go Brady has all the leverage with a retirement threat which he's used to force their hand on Gronk.
Brady is now running that franchise until the Pats have a viable succession plan, the PR disaster of cutting Brady or forcing his retirement without being able to replace him with someone who can win means he has that franchise over a barrel.

Yep no leverage. But honestly trading Gronk is dumb. Pats need him for a run. No cooks, no Amendola, no Edelman for 4 games. No Deion Lewis.

Nice post, probably has a fair amount of truth in it the Pats have earned the right to screw up a bit, but this is pretty big.
I'd love Gronk, I'd give up anything but a first round pick, maybe do a 2019 2nd and 2020 3rd

Giving up a 1st for Gronk would be dumb. Too unhealthy, too much retirement speculation. You may end up giving up a 1st to rent him for a year.
As for the reports. So much for the Patriot way. That franchise is going to collapse post Tom which is what Bill is trying to avoid but you can tell Kraft is just too emotionally invested into Tom.

yeah outside of anything 49ers related, Simms and Lefkoe is my favorite podcast...they don't sugar coat anything are Simms is pretty in tune with what's going on in the NFL.
The fact that stuff like this keeps popping up leads me to believe it's not a BS. There's definitely some issues in NE and I wouldn't be shocked if they take a step back this yr because of it.

Despite all the rhetoric about Brady playing until he's 60, he could take a step back at anytime. Not saying I expect it but if age starts catching up with him, if regresses a bit, they are going to be in a lot of trouble that no amount of top notch coaching can get them out of.

Didn't know it was that serious of a possibility to attain this guy but I admire the effort.

I mean it has to happen at some point. Brady only has one more yr on his deal SO we will see if Kraft is gonna ride Brady past 2019. They're not really planning past that it seems....they could be in for a rude awakening if that don't start thinking on the future.

BB should go somewhere else. If Brady wants to have all the power let him have it. Worked for lebron didn't it

They'll draft someone next year you gotta think but you gotta extend Brady a year and give him a fat farewell salary imo. You just have to especially if he's gonna coach up and help the new QB. Pats should've moved up for Rosen. Probably couldn't do it.
