The calf injury that had kept Jerick McKinnon out for the last three preseason games initially was believed to be a knee injury. He was seen clutching the back of his right knee at the time. He tore the right ACL today.

Can you run with a torn ACL?
Yes. However you may need a stabilizing brace to prevent other damage to the knee. Yes. yes you can run with just a torn acl. straightforward and backward running, no cutting or pivoting. if your knee gives out on you, there may be additional damage in the knee.

Not saying it wasn't a factor. He likely minimally tweaked it, but in a way not really perceptible by comparison to his calf strain.Thus creating a bit of a ticking time bomb situation, but one unlikely to be detected before it went off, which it did today.
I mean, there's probably a huge % of the NFL players who are "healthy" today with similar time bombs that will go off this year, next year, in two years, etc. Until then they gotta play.
