Pair a DC that got fired from Oakland only to see their defense improve without him to go along with this:
The Georgia offense plummeted in its one year under Schottenheimer. The offense fell from eighth in scoring offense in Mike Bobo's final year to 85th under Schottenheimer. Georgia also went from 30th in total offense to 83rd under Schottenheimer.
It's also worth noting that Schottenheimer has never had a top 10 offense in the NFL, as his offenses have struggled in his stops as an offensive coordinator with the New York Jets (2006-11) and the then-St. Louis Rams (2012-14). Schottenheimer will get to coach Russell Wilson, who is undoubtedly the best quarterback he's had.
Kirby Smart replaced Schottenheimer with Jim Chaney. After a rocky first season, the Georgia offense became one of the best in the country, particularly on the ground. The Bulldogs finished ninth in the country in rushing offense this season. Georgia finished with a 13-2 record, losing to Alabama in overtime in the national championship game.
