I really thought after Lynch got a promotion in September Peters was a lock to stay. Guess both parties don't feel the same way.
Having two titles is interesting for Lynch. How I see it, this is a way to not only reward Lynch for what he's done, but also open a potential path into retaining assistant general manager Adam Peters. For the last few years, Peters has been linked via rumors/reports to becoming a general manager for another team. He has been trending closer towards leaving the 49ers sooner rather than later.
Now that Lynch has two titles, should the 49ers want to keep Peters for the foreseeable future, they can easily hand him the general manager title. That would all depend on Peters though. He still wouldn't be calling the shots as Lynch, and especially Shanahan, have autonomy of that.
If Peters loves being with the 49ers, he will take the promotion and pay raise. If he wants both, but with more say over a team, then he will seek to move away should the opportunity arise as it has always for the last few years.

Man I'm looking at Cunningham and he's pretty impressive as well. worked with Ozzie in Baltimore and with Howie in Philly.
Either one of those guys is a good hire

I know he's still in ATL but kyle really wanted to get Kyle Smith to be part of the front office a couple years back.

MM said another guy to think about is Tom Telesco, whoms Lynch is tight with.
say what you will about Telesco, but he's drafted some damn good players over the years in LA/SD.

I really hope we promote him to GM and don't lose him. I feel like we will regret losing him in a few years when Lynch inevitably leaves.

This is probably a dumb question, but what's the difference between GM, and Head of Football Operations? If we want to keep Peters, what can be done, I'm very interested to see what happens, would love to keep him, but we lost Ran & Mayhew, but didn't really bat an eye so to speak, I'd expect the next young guy to take over if Peters leaves, he's earned the right IMO, will suck, but like with the salary cap, you can't keep every front office member(s).

Yeah, sucks, but it is what it is when you have a lot of success. The only thing Jed can do is give him a meaningless shiny new Title and more money. If Peters wants to leave, nothing can stop that. That's *if* Peters wants to leave. I think there's a 50/50 chance Peters stays - but the length of the interview gives me a bad feeling about the odds of retaining him.
