I agree about the flexibility but I think the 49ers got way too conservative with the spending as holes were dug and left unfilled.

We should see a big change in spending this year, I don't see Paraag and Jed tying Shanalynch's hands.

I think it worked out pretty well for them. They were in a position where they had to overpay significantly for free agents. People were mad about the deals they gave to Malcolm Smith, Juice and others but that is realistically what happens when you're a terrible team. Now suddenly they are an up and coming team with a franchise QB that guys will want to come and play with.

They have $120+ million with the carryover, they'll be able to sign some premier free agents at market rates rather than paying the "awful team" surcharge. I think you could very well see some guys offering a discount to come here. Its a much better free agent class and a much better environment. So whether you attribute that to luck or whatever, they are in a far better position with better overall leverage, they aren't going to be working from a position of desperation.

They would be in a better position with better players at some positions. It may work out for the best, I would love for the team to be lucky in that regard.

I cant stand Kevin Lynch. Seems like a good guy but his analysis has been way off for some time.

Just the other day he was spouting off that the majority of Jimmys big plays were all improvised which is bs

Sounds like Cian Fahey. "Garoppolo is basically Ryan Fitzpatrick, he just gets away with a lot of passes and somehow they leave his hand and wind up in the receivers hands but its just luck."

Lol, they will eventually have to eat their crow.

Ive been getting apologies lately from people who claimed hed suck solely because he was a Brady backup.

But but he was the next Aaron Rogers
Grant Cohn on 957 saying Jimmy G is non committal since he's been dodging the question if he wants to be here long term.

Are they still profiting even with a poor product on the field? I would assume yes..

However, if this team (or any other team isn't able to profit), who do you and Phoenix think covers the losses... lol

For you guys to "assume" (act like you know) that these owners don't know (or care) what's being spent each year is just really funny to me.. lol

Let's all agree we want to lock Jimmy up for min 5 years! Cheers 49er Fans!!

They have to spend that cash it's in the CBA (89%) it's just like having to pay for rent or your electric bill it's part of owning a business.

The only difference is if they don't spent the proper amount of cash, it then goes to the NFLPA. So why in the heck would Jed not want to sign a FQB? That's the point lol...all these NFL teams are profitable and all these guys were billionaires before they even owned their teams in most cases. Winning and getting butts in those seats are gonna make them more money than not spending that money, which they'd have to give to the NFLPA anyway.

That's why I don't get the Jed is cheap baloney in this scenario( not saying you're the one stating that)....I also don't recall Jed ever stepping in and determining who we should and shouldn't sign, he gives football minds a lot of money to do that.

I didn't say jed was cheap etc.. roster is the lowest in the league though.....
you don't know why and neither do I.

and for some to say jed has zero to say or doesn't look or care what the contracts are, and that's someone else's job, blah blah blah...
again, we don't know the situation, but, from what i know about successful companies and organizations, I can guarantee he (and his mom/dad) have say...

Again, I am not relating any of this to the signing of Jimmy G.
I would think (and hope) Jed and the Org. pay Jimmy G a 5 year contract as high as Carr/Stafford because I don't think the franchise tag is good for either sides..

It shows uncertainty on one or both sides..

I have no reason to think the Yorks wouldn't want to capitalize on the success of Jimmy G.. I mean, it's great for the city, the franchise, the NFL, the Yorks..THE FANS & Jed..

So let's hope for the best!

I wonder what the new controversies will be once signs

I see thanks....when throwing out half a billion dollars $60 million isn't huge lol.

Regardless that's the CBA that was the terms agreed upon. Is what it is.

I agree with you.
And I guarantee you, they know and approve "most checks and contracts" that are being done. Most successful people know money coming in and money going out.

Again, back to Jimmy G

Anyways, for all the people out there that want to lose to increase the draft position or to trade down for a bunch of later picks in the draft (I was never a fan of this, HOwever,), I want to say that trading down for more draft picks sounded great to me.

Never disagreed with that. Anytime there's a big trade going down or a big contract being signed, the ownership is going to get a heads up, this is true in every single sport but there's no evidence that Jed has ever gotten involved in personnel matters to the extent of some other owners. For all the criticism he's received, at least he hasn't been the type of dude like a Dan Snyder who gets involved in that stuff and starts picking favorites or a Jimmy Haslam who queried a homeless guy on who the Browns should take with their first pick.

The ownership is always going to have room to offer an opinion. For example the Cards chairman Michael Bidwill was a former federal prosecutor and he largely stays out of personnel matters other than to have a veto vote on guys with serious character issues that might paint the franchise in a bad light. He got to interview Tyrann Mathieu one on one before the draft and gave him the thumbs up. Stuff like that I don't have an issue with since the owner has great incentive to uphold(or not) their franchise's image.

However, I was giving it more thought and lets look at the Eagles and the Rams....

They GAVE AWAY A TON OF PICKS and yet with proper coaching and a good QB, they are leading there divisions.

Both teams that had a ton of talent on the roster already, they were just undercoached. I mean the Iggles made it to the playoffs with Chip Kelly and while he traded away a few guys, a lot of the talent they are relying on nowadays was still there. They patched up the roster by adding a few players, much like the Rams did, much like the 49ers did in 2011. The Rams were forever on the verge of being a good team but Jeff Fisher and his inability to run any sort of competent offense was the drag holding them back.

All those teams had good bases of talent in the first place. They were just lacking the quarterback+head coaching that was so vital. I'll be honest though, I have a lot more faith in McVay than I do in Pederson. I think he's going to have some trouble once Jim Schwartz leaves. The defense single-handedly won that game for them last night.

Off the Jimmy topic so sorry, but, do you think Jim Schwartz gets a HC gig again?
I do agree with the eagles won on defense last night... not gonna go far with that kind of playing...
Was the defense that great or was Carr and there offense that bad??
Maybe a little of both?

That's not how any of this works. Smh

Uhhh yeah it kinda is. When the deal is signed, Jed has to deposit 100% of the guaranteed portion of his contract in to an account for escrow per NFL rules.

$60 million is a lot of money. That is a $20 million per year player.

can you name these players?

or are you just saying spending money will just somehow improve the team
