I understand your hypothetical was based around the games Watson wouldn't be available. I was saying Jimmy would theoretically fill some of those and THEN be insurance for a Watson injury once Watson is back.
They have Brissett. He's been there through the offseason program. If he/they struggle out of the gate, they arent going to offer a worthwhile trade to the 49ers to bring in Jimmy G and jam him in for a handful of starts with no offseason prep.
A better question to debate would be what hypothetical trade offer would be good enough for the 49ers to ship Jimmy out.
