I need some goddamn Jimmy Garoppolo news.

Garoppolo is not all in. He's uncommitted. He's the one doing the feeling out. He's the one who will decide if he wants to sign long-term with the 49ers, or force the Niners to use the franchise tag to keep him one more season, almost certainly creating an uncomfortable relationship, definitely not desirable. Garoppolo has all the leverage. The 49ers are at his mercy.

There are no good articles by Grant Cohn. I love how he says the franchise tag will cause uncomfortable relationship. Yep a dude on a second round contract getting 25 million is gonna be a deal breaker. He hopes so much that Jimmy fails, but his whole game as a writer, besides not knowing the first f**king thing about actual X's and O's is being a trolling prick like his dad was.

Eh, I can see why a player might not like the franchise tag. It robs them of the agency to decide where they're going to play and also denies them at least the appearance of stability that comes with a long term contract. Kirk Cousins's relationship with the Redskins hasn't improved as a result of being franchised twice. That said, we don't know how Jimmy feels about being franchised, but I hope the 49ers don't use it except as a last resort.

I know [Jimmy's teammates] did like him overall, but they didn't like the fact that he didn't last two games before he basically wouldn't play with an AC issue in his shoulder. And we can debate whether that's a good idea or a bad idea, but Jacoby Brissett went in and tore a thumb ligament in his throwing hand and kept playing. I know quite frankly it privately bothered some of Garoppolo's teammates that he didn't keep going.

Another good article. Not really much Cohn involved for you guys that don't like him. It's an interview with some Patriots beat writers about Jimmy.

What's wrong with Grant Cohn? I appreciate his willingness to take a different angle to stories. The other beat writers all kind of blend together. Sometimes he reads into things too much or tries to make a story out of nothing, but he's not that bad.

Whether or not one likes GC is irrelevant. Maybe Alex subscribes to everything GC writes. Maybe he doesn't. Maybe he wants to understand many different perspectives in order to make a more informed argument. Why attack GC or Alex, as opposed to the actual argument being put forth?

What is it, about this specific article, you have an issue with? Do you have any respect for McCloughan? Because, according to the article, McCloughan states, "If they (Lynch et. al.) didn't have that conversation (regarding a long term contract), it would make the trade very tough. Because now you're talking about maybe a one-year guy." This statement seems on point. It's what I said earlier in this thread. Do you disagree with this assertion?

Further, GC concludes by writing: "Until Garoppolo signs an extension — if he ever does — this trade isn't as good as it looks." Do you disagree with this? Because, it seems to be, prima facie, correct.
