Carolina Panthers fire GM Dave Gettleman

Colts fire their GM in late-January, Chiefs fire their GM in late-June, Panthers fire their GM in the middle of July.

These teams are making us look competent for firing Baalke at the very end of the season.

Yes, the random sacking of GMs appears to be all the rage.

i wonder what was the final flaw that made them do it so close to TC?

The timing is weird, but the firing was necessary.

It isnt a coincidence that almost every big named player who has left the Panthers in recent years have had nothing but terrible things to say about this guy. I could see if it was just one player, but its been enough to demonstrate a pattern.

John Dorsey is fired in KC... After Chris Ballard leaves for the Colts. Now Gettleman is fired after Brandon Beane leaves for the Bills GM job. If they had fired them in January both could of had great hires instead of looking bad firing them late in the off season.

Damn weird ass timing, like quite a few of the firings this offseason.

Did he act like a jerk upon being fired or did he leave like a Gettleman?

Yep. Theres going to be more details coming out from this story in the coming days. Teams don't just fire their gms on the eve of training camp. Something bizarre is going on behind the scenes here.

Dude is a great talent evaluator but seems to burn his bridges at times with players upon their dismissal. He would add a lot of value to a scouting or personnel department though.

I got ya. I wasn't suggesting him coming here though. I think Lynch has hired enough people around him that at this point adding Gettleman would just feel like too many cooks in the kitchen.

Just was pointing out that the guy has a good track record for talent evaluation and would add somebody value in joining their personnel department.

From the sounds of it Gettleman hasn't always been a veterans players best friend. Jordan Gross headed into "early" retirement. Steve Smith got shown the door for being "past it". There are probably others like Josh Norman not getting paid. Then talk over issues with extending or not extending Greg Olsen and Thomas Davis this off season. Essentially it sounds like their owner had enough of Gettleman making cold decisions rather than extending the old players.

The thing their owner needs to consider is that the cold approach has led to them having one of the best win-loss records since Gettleman took over as GM. He's drafted well and used free agency ok. They've won multiple and consecutive division titles (first time in their history). Lost a Super Bowl. So he's done well at the helm. I can see another team giving him a shot at some point.

I feel like there is still more to it, but early reports are there was some dissatisfaction from ownership with the way he was handling the contract extensions for Olsen and Thomas Davis.

Amazing those FO's were so slow to get these things done,

THhe FO's should also be fired for waiting so long.
