Well the arm wrestling event was captured and produced for television by CBS, a television partner of the NFL if my memory serves correctly LOL. That sounds like an NFL sanctioned event to me.

So let me get this straight: you're telling us that it's "sanctioned" by the NFL because it was produced by CBS, and because they are a "partner" with the NFL a player (on his off-time) cannot hold charity event by CBS? Tell me, does CBS have to get the NFL's permission to air anything with NFL players, regardless of the purpose?

I did read read the story. I was asking common-man obvious questions to make a point: No employer should have this kind of control over their human employees. If players aren't acting on behalf of the NFL they shouldn't prohibited from doing anything legal, with anyone. Nor should CBS, or any other broadcaster for that matter, have to get the NFL's "permission" for anything regarding grown men. The NFL's position is simply unconscionable and defy's common-man sense, especially given that they have just voted - overwhelmingly - to place a team in Vegas. And perhaps I read over it but I read nowhere that the NFL fined CBS.

The fine hairs the NFL is splitting are amazing: place a team in the gambling (and prostitution) hub of America

What you're talking about has nothing to do with a rule that's been in place for many years.
A better question would be, Was CBS 100% truthful with the players about the event being OKd?
I'd say no. Based on the fact the people responsible are still claiming that the event was OKd.

Maybe the players were aware and don't really care? Like I said before maybe the amount they got paid for the event far outweighs any fines?

If you don't want to get fined don't do the arm wrestling event? IMO it's not a wise idea anyway. Most QB are restricted by their teams from doing dangerous activities in the off season. Isn't that against a players human rights? lol

Maybe not be in the NFL if they don't want to follow the rules? I agree that some things the NFL does is silly. I can't feel sorry for these players tho.

I don't think you understand my position. The fact CBS has to get the NFL's permission to do anything with grown men is the problem for me. Whether or not CBS was "truthful" is irrelevant to me. Granted, players putting themselves in physical harm is something I think the NFL has a real interest in. Teams are, after all, invested in their health. But charitable events with broadcasters? "Permission"? Give me a break! The NFL don't own these players. It's ridiculous to even fix one selves brain to event think, in 2017, that someone has to get permission from another to hold a damn charitable event.

Do what we say, not what we do league.

NFL will promote gambling, drinking excessively, and eating like s**t, but if a player is involved in gambling, getting fat, or drinking excessively, they get fined.

She assumed he'd take the 49ers and was stuck running a team she really didn't want to and didn't know how to (despite having won a championship owning the Penguins) so she had John and later Jed do it for her.

Yep, and the NFL is going to promote the * out of gambling with the Raiders.

The NFL promoted gambling with Fan Duel and didn't even give a piece of the action to the players who were the ones being bet on and who had their names used by Fan Duel.

Guess you don't understand how the NFL works. No one can do anything without getting the NFL's permission. If you're a broadcast company and want to use NFL players to promote an event you need permission. It's been this way for 50+ years.

The rule prohibits players from gambling, or even being inside an establishment that is related to gambling. Common knowledge and also a rule in many other sports as well. Why CBS thought this was ok is beyond me.

Sounds like none of the players knew they were doing anything wrong and it was failed communication between CBS the NFL and it's players.

The NFL is investigating the event and fines could be lifted upon further information.
