Why not find a deep threat in the draft or an offensive lineman for that matter. Smith is looking like a one trick pony. I agree Iupati is overpaid as is Smith

Devey might be as bad a Chilo Rachel

At least Chilo had a few good games. Devey is awful.

The Cardinals don't think he's over paid, considering they are the new power house in the NFC west at 7-2 ill agree with them. Iupati is a pro bowl LG, how much more value do you want?? You can criticize his injuries but id like to see you get off your key board & try to take 1/1000 of the punishment that man takes every Sunday, then come back on here & complain about an OL always being banged up, so
much ignorance.

Btw having our OL suck & deep threat WR is working out really well this season isn't it??

It is fatuous to tell a poster to go and do what a football player does. The worst NFL player ever could do more and take more punishment than the average poster. By personalising your argument like that, you have lost the plot.

Iupati, as has been discussed a million times in Ninertalk, is a superb run blocker and a below average pass blocker. I see some posters are trying to rewrite history and pretend he was at least an average pass blocker. Just because people want it to be that way to provide an excuse to moan about the team doesn't mean it was.

When his contract came up, he wanted a big payday which at the time the team couldn't afford. Not many teams splash out big bucks on guards.

So far, the rebuild of the O line is a work in progress. Depressing. But thanks to the salary cap, the option to keep all of our players did not exist.

Pass blocking sucks, and now his run blocking is starting to suck. How many times did he whiff on Guard pulling play or not even get a good block on a smaller guy...too many times

You know who else doesn't get on the field and try to play ?, the Coaches, GM and Owner which pay this guy to be on the field, ..not off

You can over analyze areas of his game but overall he was an all pro LG, the team the 49ers are chasing in their own division deemed him worthy of his "big payday" whether you like it or not Iupati signing with a division rival was a major failure for the front office. Its not a cap casualty Baalke deliberately let the OL fall apart to bring in a deep threat WR. Pro bowl LG's have signed 50 mil contracts in the past, Iupati was easily worth 40. Not many teams splash out big bucks for guards?? Larry Allen?? Steve Huchinson?? Logan Mankins?? Many dominant offensive lines have been anchored by guards that made "big bucks" Its not like you have to look hard for reasons to "moan" lately.

those other Guards you mentioned, iupati is no where in the category those guys are in.

it has nothing to do with wear and tear as all DL/OL go through it, but there are guys that are way better who don't get the recognition (probowl votes)

The rest of your argument is even more ridiculous, you dont know me or anything that I've done. Iupati compared to some other OLs has had a litany of injury issues and has been banged up pretty regularly, history tells us that this generally only worsens withage.
