You can find someone to be offended by anything. I for one am extremely offended by the fighting irish and the vikings.

You are not offended by the fighting irish or vikings names, so your attempt at a joke is pointless. No other pro team has an offensive name in any way. From what i hear a very small percentage of the Native community are actually offended by the name, but that can still end up being a few million people. That's too many people, change the name. Nobody will even care in a few years. Plus it would be nice as a Niner fan to participate in making Skins fans angry for having to change their name.

If Redskin is such a nasty slur why when I have heard every racial slur under the sun used, have I never heard the term Redskin used other than when referring to the football team? Some people just feel the need to make a big deal out of nothing. If Native Americans make up .9% of the USA population that means there are 3 million living here, so why should anyone care about the few who claim to be offended? I could understand concern if there was a petition with a million Native American names on it against the term Redskin, but there isn't.

Washington 12th man.....I don't know of any other pro football team that claims this I'm sure Texas am would licenses it to them.

For some it wont change their minds, despite evidence to the contrary.Others, it sheds necessary light on the true history of the slur for some who may not have known.

They don't want to be associated with the name in any way like they're some kind of pet mascot. Sounds reasonable. It ain't about you and your opinion, its about them. Change the name and lets move on.

Likewise, if you're not Native American, you have no say. Since most Native Americans don't find it offensive, well, guess the name is staying.

Before I read up on the link, I always thought that some Native Indians and other races just thought of "Redskins" as a racial slur towards Natives... I had no idea there was a dark/evil history to it. Now, I'm wondering if some or any (for that matter) sincerely consider themselves as Native (Americans) ...

Someone in here mentioned changing the logo to a potato and keep the name redskin... that's more like it.

Exactly, ain't about us, so we will see. If I had to bet, I'd say eventually they're forced to change it. I'm going laugh tobecause i hate the redskins.

Oh look, some native americans that actually have a problem with the slur.I thought all ones everyone on here says they know were the only ones that exsisted.No wait, there are only a few of em compared to the others who dont care, so I guess their opinion doesnt matter.
