It's true.. "Team"-wise we are the best in the NFL.
The patriots are a close second... Brady blah blah blah, but they ran effectively for the first time since Corey Dillon was in a uniform, and their defense looks less sieve-like. Granted they played the rebuilding titans...but holding CJ2K to 4 yards on 11 carries was impressive.
Other teams will join the discussion of "elite" as the season goes on... (early candidates: Broncos, Cowboys, etc) But right now the Niners and Pats look like the most consistent top teams of their conference.
Young followed it up with saying that it's the best team from top to bottom. They have the owner, the GM, the coaching staff, and a roster loaded with talent and a great locker room chemistry. From a guy that has been around teams that have been great, I think he knows what he's talking about.
Furthermore, and this is orignally why I posted this, Stu Scott tried to steer the conversation towards the Packers and what this loss means to them. Steve was having none of it and took the opportunity to gush a little about his former team.
Glad he did it, it was all ESPN could do to stop themselves from getting down and fellating the Packers all week leading up to this, and they clearly are playing to the masses of fans that like that team.
I'm not a big fan of power rankings but after tonight's games there's no reason why we shouldn't be #1, which is typically reserved for the best team in football.
This isn't about Stu Scott...it's about Steve Young and how he steadfastly supports the Niners. It has to fire him up inside to see what Harbaugh's done with his former team. To see them on the brink of another championship...knowing more will come. To see Alex finally getting his due...he's proud of what's going on in Santa Clara and makes no bones about it. Nor should he...
