There is no guarantee Vick would be playing at the same level he did last year had he signed with us.

We'd probably win 2-3 more games but Vick would be on IR now after getting his knees squashed due to the despicable play of our o-line at one point or another.

Vick is a piece of trash and a lot of the same people wanting him here are the same fools who are stuck on our image of "classiness." Personally, I didn't want Vick, not because of what he did, but because he simply wasn't a good QB. Without Andy Reid's tutelage, he would still be mediocre - great runner, terrible passer. Guess what? If he came to SF, he would have been under the tutelage of Mike Singletary, not Andy Reid. Vick would not be what he is now if he came to SF. He was a guy with all the physical tools, but never put them to use without the right situation and SF was NOT the right situation. He was surrounded by far more talent in Philly, and I'm not just talking about the players.

The commissioner and league officials should have no comment on where a player goes in any situation. I can understand Goodell wanting the best for Vick, and wanting the best for the image of the league, but you can't give that kind of advice.

Could you imagine what people would be saying if Stern made a comment about where Lebron should have went. The fix is in. The champ is already booked.

Wow, great post... says everything I intended to. (except that I also loathe Vick for the "couple of stinky dogs."
I don't give a damn what the situation with Vick was. Goodell or anybody from the league office shouldn't be pushing or leading a player to ANY one team. That's some messed up s#*t!

Totally agree. What does that say about the integrity of the league?

This!

I think it goes against the team's competitive balance, the good of individual players, and ultimately the good of fans for the commissioner the interfere with free agents this way.

But we're talking about a several billion dollar industry, so it's no shock that strings are getting pulled behind the scenes. I'm sure there's a lot more of this kind of stuff going on that never gets reported.
haha this can be interpreted a few ways.
