Focusing on players from Cal and Stanford over the SEC

A poster just ridiculed me for saying the niners would have a sorry team. I think he is wrong. Look at the list from Cal and Stanford, and decide for yourself. The niners could have drafted almost all of these players, Aaron Rodgers, Deshaun Jackson, Marshawn Lynch, Jahvid Best, etc. Now if they focused on players also from Hawaii, and American Samoa, and Oregon schools, they would be ultra competitive. Clarification, I stated in the drafting and FA process the niners should focus on players who played in N. Ca, or want to live in the bay area. This will make players easier to resign, ie Brent Jones, Joe Nedney, Isaac Sopaga, (close to Samoa). A poster said we would have a sorry team if we focused on the West coast only, and I completely disagree. The team would be better. I just listed Cal and Stanford players in the NFL. If you threw in Oregon schools, Hawaii and players from Samoa, you could have a kick arse team.

Forget the SEC (who McCluess loved) draft from the Pac 12.

West coast/Pacific players in general are routinely passed up because for some reason there is a national perception that the best football is played in the south and midwest. Maybe this is the ESPN factor.

This despite the fact that the western teams do very well in bowl games and non-league play.

Even hardened NFL front offices tend to select the "popular" choices because then they can't be blamed if they fail. If they choose some guy from Washington State and he fails, then they get the blame for that.

LOL. There's like 3 good players on that list. Point proven, that's a sorry team. Last year's all pro team had all of 3 pac10 guys and all of one from Cal.

desean jackson and aaron rodgers are both from cal....so that's already two.

Yes instead of picking the best player available lets focus on two local schools

I was all for drafting Rodgers and Jackson as a big Cal fan, but lets not fool ourselves thinking all the players coming out of Cal and Stanford are of the same caliber as those two.
