Trading for Darelle Revis

I completely understand that logic but Clements was not only older when we signed him than revis currently is, he was also not a shut down cover corner but a top 5 corner overall ( #1 against the run but #12 against the pass) who happened to be available.

Players dont USUALLY do a complete about face so realistically we have what we have so dont expect much more than what you saw Saturday.

Dude even on madden if u try and trade for Darrelle Revis i GUARANTEE you you will not be able to retain the services of Vernon Davis, Goldson, and Manny Lawson, AND sign Revis to a long term contract extension lol! *sighhhh the simple things we can learn from madden lol

Nate Clements was never half as good as Revis is. There was never a time in Clement's career when anyone thought that he was the best corner in football. Top 5 maybe, but even that was a very short stretch.

I'm against bringing in him because we have too many pieces in the final year of their deals, but comparing Clements to Revis is like comparing Roy Williams to Andre Johnson.

Scott McCloughan and Terry Donahue would never even consider trading for a player as good as Revis. McCloughan was too scared to make such a move and Donahue would be the dude releasing or trading him for peanuts, not the guy trading for him.

I think a monster contract with him can be worked out, with us still retaining Vernon Davis and everybody else we need to. We just won't be among the teams with the most cap room anymore (assuming the cap will be reinstated and the limitations will be similar to what they were). The main thing is the price of the draft picks. If it takes two number 1s, you have to consider the price those two first-rounders would cost us if we keep them when thinking about how much room we'll have for Revis' contract. We can also dump high paid guys like Clements to free up more cap room.

All that being said, it will never happen. It's nice to think about how much Revis would improve our team, but we don't have the big move makers in our front office that would want to get it done. Revis would automatically make us a legitimate Super Bowl contender, assuming Alex Smith does a pretty good job this year. Our only glaring weakness right now is pass defense and Revis would fix that immediately.

Nate Clements was never a shutdown corner. He was the best CB available, but far from a shutdown corner. Revis is the only true shutdown corner in the league, followed by Nnamdi Asomugha, since Champ Bailey's prime.
