Improve our draft status!

you want to improve our draft status let Troy Smith remain the starter or put in David Carr.

Actually that was kinda funny.
It would be smart to use the rest of the season splitting time between T.Smith and Davis, giving them all the reps.

T.Smith might well be better as he gets more than a few days worth of practice time and more game time, and Davis may have been sent down by Sing because he was always the main threat to A. Smith.

A. Smith and Carr we know about and both should refuse to play and ruin their chances of catching on with other teams, or not having any trade value at all.

You can't do that because the players know neither of those two guys give them much chance to win. Putting Davis at QB would be a signal to the rest of the team that you have given up on the season. The result would be a lot of dissension and a wholesale exodus of FA eligible players.

Troy clearly isn't the answer either and if he continues to be the starter it may lead to the same thing as Davis.

If Singletary wants to hold this team together at all he must go back to Alex. Troy and Nate will get their chance under the new HC next spring and summer. In the meantime, Singletary has an obligation to the team to put the best QB in play and that is Alex. Whether we like it or not, that is clearly the best option.
Does it really matter who is the Niners QB at this point? I say, "No".

If I am Singletary, hoping to keep my job, I go back to Alex. He gives the team the best chance to win. However, more than likely, he will stay with Troy.

At this point, though, I have no problem pulling up Davis. The season is already toast. Might as well give him some reps for the new coaches to see if he worthy to keep on the roster as a third stringer next year.

sing wont put davis in, why evaluate the future if mike only has 4 games remaining as a 9er... he'd think

Unfortunately, you're right.
Nate Davis has biggest upside and most potential but we wont know what we have until someone lets him play a regular season game. Nate Davis has clearly been the best qb on the team in the last two preseasons
if Davis hasn't progressed well over the past season and 3/4ths, it's the coaches fault. not his.

I'd rather let Alex win some garbage games then pull an ol' Madden sign-n-trade, basically using Smith as trade bait. May as well get SOMETHING for him. Hell, even a 6th round pick would be a bargain.

he is a FA next year

him leaving in FA would get us a compensatory pick i think since he was our starter for so long. might get a 3rd or 4th rounder. not sure what its based on but QB is a pretty important part of a team, unless your mike singletary.

There is no way they bring him back as the starter next year. There is no way. If he was our starter next year, they'd sign him to an extension right now, just like the skins, colts, and pats did for they're guys. Sell your smith Jersey's ladies and gents. Or put them in a case and have joe montana sign it so it's worth something...

That's why I know Sing won't do it. But I sooooooooooooo wish he would.

Sing makes a list of everything that makes the most sense to do. Then he throws it in the garbage and does something else.
