Who Were Your "Pound the Table" Guys? Hits and Misses?

Doesn't sound so crazy now, huh?

I know this is going to sound crazy, but he should be in play at 11. That's how good the tape is. At the end of the day, it's all about drafting great players, and Schwesinger looks like he's going to be one of those.

1) Chase Bisontis
2) Bud Clark
3) Gennings Dunker
4) Dani Dennis- Sutton
I think any of the first three could've came in here and started year one and made an impact.
I don't know why but I've always liked Dani Dennis Sutton. I think he's gonna be a solid solid pro. With his motor, work ethic, measurables and testing I just don't see how he's not going to be successful.

Honorable mention: Charles Demmings
Coming from a small school I have no idea if this guy is going to make it, but I would've loved to take a flyer on him. Very good measurables, but definitely needs some work but seems to have a nose for the ball.

Watching this kid honestly reminded me a bit of Brent Jones. He's just an all around good football player. Not overly tall or heavy, but plays decently big and is a strong blocker and receiver.

Didn't make it to our 3rd 😭. Set records as a rookie on his way to a Pro Bowl.

Nasty blocker, plays with a fiery attitude and great leverage. Great out in space and has strong awareness to pick-up stunts and anchors well in the pass game. Looks like an excellent fit for our scheme and IMO could start right away at RG while also being groomed as C of the future.

Like idiots we passed, could've had a dominant interior now. I talked about Frazier making the line calls like we ask our centers to do. He was everything we could've wanted. Made the PFW All Rookie team, a noted Pro Bowl snub, and is at minimum a top 10 center in the NFL.

WZ Draft Analysts are built different 🤷‍♂

This year
1. Jacob Rodriguez
2. Deangelo Ponds
3. Germie Bernard
4. Landon Robinson

Last year
1. Jalon Walker
2. Will Johnson
3. Zach Frazier

Year before
I was all in on Cooper DeJean and fought with guys here about his abilities

My biggest miss was Trey Lance. I was ecstatic that we chose him over McCorkle and thought his game would translate because he was under center in college. Another miss was Joshua Jackson. I thought he'd shine in the league and in our zone heavy scheme
1. Logan Jones- but I NEVER expected him to go at 57.

2. Chase Bisonitis- was my pick at 33. Thought he was for sure the guy after the Texans snatched Rutledge and we traded back.

3. Oscar Delp- a realistic guy to add to the TE room. Sadiq was never realistic.

4. Akeem Mesidor- capable three down starter that can contribute in year 1. Can rush and defend the run.

2024/2025
1. Zach Frazier- plug and play center, even though we don't do that

2. Elijah Arroyo- this is my Miami bias coming out.

3. Oronde Gadsen II- Watched his dad with the Dolphins and felt he could bring what Jake Tonges ultimately did bring.

Just for fun, I'll bring up one of my big misses.

Wanya Morris - I was convinced he could be LT of the future and could play RT until Trent was done.

Justin Fields. I swore he was the guy at number 3. He was literally the face of that QB academy Shanahan was doing. In spite of the obvious flaws, I thought Kyle could turn Fields into his own Steve Young..

Drake Jackson- I was ecstatic when we got him and thought, he if he comes here and is committed to one position with his traits he can be the dynamic pass rusher we lost when Dee Ford went down.

If we're doing our entire body of work, then Fred is hands down my greatest hit for a "pound the table" guy on the webzone.

But my greatest hit ever has been Patrick Mahomes. I loved him as a prospect. The guy had the worst footwork, worst mechanics but somehow the ball always ended up where it needed to be. I thought he was Brett Favre all over again...turns out, he was and more. It's insane that he's already entering into his 10th NFL season. Time flies!

The biggest miss that immediately comes to mind was Arik Armstead. God, I HATED that pick. I remember going on and on about how he was slow off the ball, clumsy, stiff, poor pad level, soft body, only had power in the bag as a rusher, etc. Man, I wouldn't shut about how bad AA was.. Boy, did he prove me wrong and develop into a monster. He ended up becoming one my favorite players ever.

Dillon Thieneman this year, would have absolutely traded one or even two of our 4th's to go up.

Loved Logan Jones, but that was higher than I thought he'd go. Was a fan of Pat Coogan as well and he went lower than I thought he would.

Last year I was all over Jalon Walker, still think he'll be a stud, funny that we've now got the defensive mind that was part of the brain trust to draft him. Remember someone saying (think it was Hero) that we weren't creative enough to use him.

Oh yeah, should mention that I really liked Jordan James, so here's hoping.

I think you swayed me onto Mahomes, then Mad Dog jumped in and I was sold. Found a post along the lines of, F it why not. Remember watching the ridiculous game Vs Oklahoma during the process.
My biggest hits:
  • Spencer Brown
  • Alaric Jackson
Biggest misses:
  • Andrew Booth Jr
  • Drake Jackson
  • Kolohe

2026

Dillon Thieneman
Romello Height
Germie Bernard

2025

James Pearce
Malaki Starks
Derrick Harmon
This thread brought back memories to Kyle and John's first draft. I wanted Alvin Kamara some kind of bad. Then he fell right into the niners lap and they traded out of that spot with New Orleans. I was super pissed lol. Then the pain of watching him immediately become an impact player was salt in the wound.
Taylor Mays
I have a lot of misses but the one that comes to mind the most is Everette Brown from back in the day.

2018
Derwin James (hit)

2020
Cee Dee Lamb (hit)

2021
Justin Fields (miss)
Creed Humphry (hit)
Quinn Meinerz (hit)

2024:
Malachi Corley (miss)
Jackson Powers-Johnson (hit)

2025
Josh Simmons (hit?)
Jalon Walker (too early)

I've learned over the years to not fall in love with anyone. The 9ers aren't going to draft them so why put myself through the misery?
Locked On NFL(podcast) has it's latest posted and they're leading off with the 49ers. They're skeptics. What's good to hear is an outside opinion but like most entertainment it's meant to veer towards the drama. Check it out.
