This! He may be the 1st name on my Do not draft list. Guard from NDSU 2nd on that list

Dude you are the only person that I have seen who thinks that "guard from NDSU" had a bad Senior Bowl week. All good though nothing wrong with that; everyone has their own opinions on prospects

During the game you noticed they kind of chilled on him a Lil. He stayed in front of his man on 1 v1 drills but would have been pushed into QBs lap. Happened in team drills and the game. Missed blocks on run plays in the game. A lot of blocking no one on plays in the game.

So yea, it depends on what you value and/or how you're projecting what you see

They snap the ball at the 5 and he ends up at the goalline on every rep in this clip that everyone is loving. I'm not spending a high 2nd on this

Just no to Walter Nolen at #11.

He can be an ok pass-rusher on passing downs but at 293 lbs he is too light to be a good run defender in our wide 9 and the priority this off-season must be stopping the run.

After all they traded Buckner because he was 290 and they got Kinlaw that was 30 lbs heavier but he turned to be a bust.

DJ Jones was 319 lbs when he was here and he was a really good run defender.

If we can't get Mason Graham (318 lbs) we should draft a guy like Kenneth Grant (339 lbs) in the 2nd round and sign DJ Jones in FA.

How was he mauling anyone in the clip? He definitely controlled his guy at times, but still getting pushed back quite easily

In the NFL monsters will be pushing him into the stands like Kilgore use to get pushed back

I didn't see any mauling either.

Do you think this guy can do some mauling?

I try to keep a revolvin list of players throughout the year that catch my interest for the 49ers. Some of these players may not actually be in the draft - i try to remove names as they confirm that they are retuning to school, but a lot of names are added pretty early in the season, or as far back as from when I was watching 2023 prospects for that draft class. I wanted to see where these players slated in on Dane's current top 100 big board. NR means not ranked.

Weight has very little to do with being good at controlling the line of scrimmage.

We didn't trade Buckner because he was 290. We traded him because he wasn't a good fit at shooting gaps.

Strength and leverage wins over weight any day of the week.

Some of the best run defenders in the league are around the 300 mark. We also don't run a scheme where we use a prototypical NT who needs to control 2 gaps. Our scheme is built around penetration and then our LBers need to clean it up.

Grover Stewart - 310
Jeffrey Simmons - 305
Jonathan Allen - 300
Christian Wilkins - 310
Derrick Brown - 320
Chris Jones - 310

Regardless, guys like Walter Nolan at 295 or TJ Sanders at 290 would be excellent fits because of their explosion as a 3T. Grab a prototypical 1T but they can be found later because they come off the field on passing downs for the most part.

No Jay Higgins, Nick Martin, Billy Bowman or Donovan Jackson?

Players not listed doesn't necessarily mean I don't Iike them. Usually it means I wouldnt be interested in drafting them where they're expected to be drafted, or that I simply haven't watched them enough to form a strong opinion.

For example: I don't want to draft a WR. I do like Royal enough that I'd be good with it. Otherwise, give me someone late (if at all) like Ricky White. Ayomanor is there from when I thought we might lose Aiyuk last year. He was just too intriguing to take off.

DL is the deepest position in the draft. Trading up to take the 1st one off the board this dude will need to have like Aaron Donald type production for this to make sense. I for one don't see it. I know sacks isn't the only stat to use to judge a player. But 9 sacks in 3 years is just head scratching. He should have 9 just from the cupcake portions of their schedule. I wouldn't be mad if they drafted him. Trading up for him IMO would be asinine. That though again is because I don't expect Aaron Donald type production. Which IMO is what he would have to put up to separate himself from all the other viable options we have in this particular draft. .

Man I'm warming up to Walter Nolen (in a trade down). Love graham and I think if he got to us that would be a home run pick. I'm kinda over moving up for anyone in this draft though.

Agreed.

Also, even in just one trade down to high teens - the extra 2nd rounder allows us to go after one of the top G in Wyatt Millum and Donovan Jackson which one should be available at #43. Then use the extra acquired pick to keep going DL in Alexander/Deone Walker/TJ Sanders etc.
Wyatt Millum sucks he shouldn't even be under consideration for #43.

Lol ok - Donovan Jackson G or the T from Arizona. One of them should be there at #43.

I would go something like Harmon/Grant/Nolen DL at #25-30, Donovan Jackson G at #43, and Darius Alexander/Deone Walker DL at #47-54. Then get Kyle Kennard/Ezeiruaku EDGE at the pick in the #60s and then double up with David Walker EDGE at #75. Then grab one of the top two centers in the draft in Jared Wilson out of Georgia at #99 and Anthony Belton T NC State at #112 and we have just massively upgraded our trenches on both sides of the ball.

TWO top DL
TWO promising edge rushers
A top 3 G in the draft
A top 2 C in the draft
And a RT with upside that could beat out McKivitz sooner than later.

And all of that and we're just at the beginning of the 4th round. Picks #138 and #139 I have another DL in mind + a LB so even more trenches and front 7.
[ Edited by Ezekiel38 on Feb 11, 2025 at 9:58 PM ]
I just did a mock simulator Saleh Special with three trade downs: 11 to 20 for pick 51. 20 and 139 for pick 25 and 58. 25 and 112 for 27 and 91.

So end up with picks 27, 43, 51, 58, 75, 91, and 99 in the top 100.

Went with

#27. Jahdae Barron CB
#43. Jihaad Campbell LB
#51. Darius Alexander DL
#58. Deone Walker DL
#75. David Walker EDGE
#91. Jalen Royals WR
#99. Traded for #112 and #127
#112. Jared Wilson C
#127. Malachi Moore S
#138. Ricky White WR
#174. Devin Neal RB
#189. CJ West DL
#228. JJ Peguise DL

Gotta give Saleh some ingredients to cook with. Thus I think we go heavy defense in this draft early and often.
