But he moves well on the football field. Tracks the ball exceptionally well. He'll be a solid NFL starter. https://t.co/1VoMFJv85c
agree we were never gonna see him run a 40
Above avg vert for a CB, abysmal short shuttle for a CB.
like Dane said good solid starter, the while Surtain 2.0 stuff was a bit much imo
In conversations with personnel folks over the weekend, I'm told that RD1 CB prospect Will Johnson (Michigan) will "do everything but run a 40" in this morning's workout for NFL evaluators. Considered a top-20 pick by zone-heavy defensive teams. A sniper with his eyes forward and…

I'm leery of any player who will not run the 40 at a position that relies on speed. I think we got burnt drafting Michael Crabtree without him running the 40.
He looked much faster playing against college players, but when he got to the pros, he struggled to separate.
I realize this is a different time and they have the GPS stuff but still, if you're really fast, I would think you'd want to show it.

It's hard to know why players choose to not run certain drills. Maybe they just aren't prepared or they have a slight injury that they don't want to talk about. Most guys spend weeks preparing for the 40 and some even drop weight to record a good time. Most teams realize this and don't put a huge amount of stock in those times. If they see the weight loss then that could be a bigger issue. Then there's the difference between track speed and game speed. Sometimes it's a big difference.

I think folks need to adjust their expectations though. Johnson was never gonna run a 40. His long speed and recovery speed have kinda always been a negative. People tossing out Surtain 2.0 weren't keeping it real.
like others have said, he's best as a zone coverage off man CB. Play with everything in front of him. Kinda like Sherm, without the length, elite tackling and with multiple lower-body injuries
I think he's a solid CB and will be a starter. I don't think there's a ton of upside or elite measurables that make you think he's got a ton of room to improve.
