Nik Bonitto * EDGE * OU

I like to see some violence in the hands and guys like him and Jackson don't really have that right now.

Vic Beasley is a good comp

I'd rather gamble on Jackson. His flashes of peak movement ability and better length leads me to fall in love a bit more with his upside, tho there is something to be said about Nik Bonitto being wildly productive and disruptive, whereas Jackson never really took that next step. Would want to vet where Jackson is mentally, but purely based off of physical attributes, I think he has a better chance of becoming "the guy" at the NFL level.
Comparing him to Vic Beasley talent wise is not a bad thing, Vic proved on his 2nd season that he was good enough to win in the NFL and get 15.5 sacks. Who knows, maybe his work ethic, his will to become great or for whatever reason he declined quickly. Yes he declined quickly but talent wise he was good enough to dominate and could've been a special player himself. Comping Nik to Vic is not as bad as some of you makes of. Nik might have a different mindset from Vic but both are very athletic and talented.

Depending on what happens with Adam Anderson's legal issues, Bonito is probably the most explosive and bendy speed rusher in the class. Doesn't have the size or length that you want. As far as his testing numbers, for edge I prioritize 10 yard split, vert and 3C. Absolutely elite 10, but just good but not elite vert and 3C. He is your traditional 34OLB but that doesn't really matter in today's day and age because he's gonna be a designated pass rusher, at least to start his career. Going on 23 to start the season, I don't think he has room to get too much bigger or stronger. Primarily wins (a lot in college) out of a 2-point stance as a stand up speed rusher. Explosion off the ball consistently puts tackles in a bad position almost immediately off the snap, where he can take advantage either around the edge dipping under the tackle with a dip+rip, or with an inside counter. In the games I watch, I don't see much speed to power if any at all, and while he attempts to use his hands (2 hand swipe is a go to), he lacks the strength to get off blocks if the tackle is able to land a solid punch or worse, engulf him with size/length. Not a ton of combo moves and so at this point, unless a team is wanting to drop him into coverage, I can't see him as a top 50 pick, he's too 1-dimensional as a rusher and can't see the field on all 3 downs. I am personally a fan of speed rushers, but they have to also have some speed to power (whereas technique can be taught), and I don't know if at his age and size if it'll ever happen for him. He might be Vic Beasley, he might be Hasaan Reddick.

Just because there's not much film of Nik going from speed to power doesn't mean he doesn't have it in his pass rushing arsenal. Every speed rusher has to have speed to power, it's the best counter to OT adjusting for the speed. You dont have to be that strong to go from speed to power, actually speed is the most important element of the speed to power pass rush move, using speed to catch the OT off balance when he turns his shoulders to chase the pass rusher is key.

No doubt there's a role for him the NFL. Like hero stated in the EDGE thread. Speed is fine but if you don't have that power aspect to your game it's a problem. Winning thru contact is important. Containing those lanes with all these athletic QBs is important.

l'll have to watch more of him but overall I haven't seen it with Bonitto.
Greg Cosell on Nik Bonitto
One of the most pleasant-to-watch prospects in this draft. His quickness is outstanding.
Approved by the HOFer MD himself case closed. IMO would be the perfect speed rusher opposite of Bosa but unfortunately I think he'll be long gone before our first pick at #61, and with the signing of Kemoko Turay I think the team will go in a different direction. Good to have you back MD 🤝
This would have been my guy at 61, but I hope Drake is better. I thought he compared well to Harold Landry.
I didn't mind the Drake pick to be honest, I thought he would actually go before our first pick that's why I went with Bonitto, thought he would be available around where we pick, would be good value to get him at that spot but I Drake's value was more at #61.

Bonito is a 3-4 OLB

he is to undersized to play in a 4-3 DE role. We would have to be in the nickel packages for him to get the most use

He couldn't play the Dee Ford roll of a wide 9 pass rusher complimenting Bosa?

I think both guys will be DPR early in their career. Drake has more 3 down upside IMO.

That's all we need with Armsted playing base end, unless we plan on moving him inside with Kinlaw full time
