Though I fullly believed that we could have traded down and still land him,
there's really nothing to complain about since he can be a solid at the position
for the next 10 years.
Grade: A
2) WR - Dante Pettis - A mixture between the speedster Goodwin and the quickster Taylor
and it's the reason why I don't get this pick. After moving up to this spot
you almost wanna believe that we are targeting a possible #1WR, or better
yet, another CB or a pass rusher. Personally, I think we did not need to
trade up to land this guy.
Grade: C
3) LB - Fred Warner - We hit the bullseye on this guy. His motor will be running 110 miles per hour
for all 4 quarters. When all said and done, he will be the face of this draft class
for the 49ers.
Grade: A
3) FS - Tarvarius Moore - The guy is a PURE football player. He knows the game, and Lynch loves him
because he's very physical. The team projects him as a CB, so if he can learn and
play this position once Sherman is ready to walk away, then we just found a
Diamond in the Rough.
Grade: C+
4) DT - Kentavius Street - A junkyard type of player. The kid got drafted because of he's got that
" I Want It" in him.. I watched NCST 3x last year, and this guy is just hungry.
Tho considered a damaged good, he's a poor man's Solomon Thomas.
Grade: C
5) CB - DJ Reed - He will compete for the Nickel Back position, but we just drafted one in Tarvarius
as he learns how to play corner. We could have used this pick to draft a pass rusher
who had fallen this far.
Grade: C
6) SS - Marcell Harrs - I don't care who or which GM you are, when you draft a player who was hurt
the year before, it only means that you are in love with his talent. Special Team As
I hope??
Grade: C-
7) DT - Jullian Taylor - Another DT?? Is this guy just a "placeholder" or are they serious about what
talent or promised seen? Did we not need a DE???
Grade: D
7) WR - Richie James - And yet, another slot receiver. Behold Camelot !!! Dawn of a New Offense is
coming !! Are we really going to see the innauguration of Shanahan's 4 Set of
Dimunative WRs?? aka MOUSEKEETERS???
Grade: D
Nice breakdown. I don't agree with everything but can understand where you're coming from.
For me the McGlinchey pick was a bit of a gut punch but that was mostly because I was a huge fan of Landry and thought Brown was going to be on the team. Obviously Landry fell all the way to 41 or wherever he went so clearly whether medical reasons or play reasons taking him at #9 would've been a reach. Also I felt much better about that pick after Oakland traded back and took Miller who IMO had no business going that high and pretty much confirmed McGlinchey would've been Oakland's pick at 10. That and us trading Brown away made the pick so much better to take.
The Pettis trade up was another surprise. I wanted us to make the jump up for Landry in the worst way but obviously knew he was off the board when we moved up but I was thinking maybe we were targeting another edge rusher or Isaiah Oliver. I don't dislike Pettis but honestly was surprised we traded up for a WR. With guys like Deasean Hamilton or Gallup going in the 3rd round I certainly hope Pettis ends up being a stud because we could've gotten a guy like Sam Hubbard at the pick we traded away to get him.
The other picks I didn't really mind outside of Street and Harris and it's certainly not cuz of their talent.
Overall I'm still excited...it may not be the same with like a draft the Broncos have where it's chalk full of sexy names and big time prospects but I keep going back to the free agent signings we had last year and I really wasn't impressed by any of them and felt we were just getting scraps because nobody wanted to play here but all of those guys ended up playing great in Kyle's scheme so if Kyle can identify these guys and bring up their play then I'm sure as hell not going to pretend I know better.
If he thought Pettis was worth moving up for then I'm going to STFU and see how it goes. Even if he contributes on special teams only as a rookie but helps that area in a big way and gets some TDs then it's a win.
Hope the guys we have on the roster prove the front office right in not touching edge rushers in this class.
