Honest question. With no answer being well if he finished the season....

If bosa could not get more than 9 sacks in a season, how would he in the NFL? I think he's at his max because he have been coached by pros basically his whole life

Well honestly, no one can really say he will or won't get more than 8.5 sacks in a season. Shoot you could've asked this question about Josh Allen if you took away his 2018 season. Up to that point both Bosa and Allen started 29 games with Allen only managing 14.5 sacks while Bosa managed 17.5. But to really answer your question, Bosa has all the tools and work ethic to be a dominant DE in the NFL. His technique and Combine compares to the best pass rushers in the NFL including his brother Joey's. I mean, you might have a problem judging Nick Bosa and have some second thoughts on drafting him IF you're only looking at his numbers, which to me seems like you are.

Because that doesn't tell the whole story. Aaron Donald never got more than 11 in college. He just had 20.5 last year in the nfl.

s**t, marsh had 5.5 with us last year. Almost all of those he was unblocked. Who ever we get to replace him as starter is gonna eat.

Danielle Hunter 4.5 sacks in his 3 years at LSU. He had 14.5 sacks last year.

Production is great but there have been plenty of studs in college who became duds in the NFL.

What you want to see is skillsets that translate to NFL success. Bosa has those skills. I can't track down his snap counts but they weren't very high.

Not to mention snap counts matter...thank you PFF for putting out their draft guide for this post.

Bosa in his career at OSU had

1009 total snaps - 581 pass rush snaps total.

For comparison DeForest Buckner had 1016 snaps just last year.
Solomon Thomas had 732 and the great Cassius Marsh had 771.

OSU had to play other guys in order to keep recruiting top talent. They promise those guys playing time and have to deliver no matter who else they have.

Playing time won't be an issue with Bosa here.

When drafting a collegiate player it is pretty much standard that they do not have NFL conditioning, they do not have NFL level coaching.

You draft potential, knowing you can add to it.

When you draft a Payton Manning, or a Nick Bosa, or any player that already has better then average coaching and conditioning, some one who grew up in a NFL environment. It is fair to wonder about their upside based on the production of the games they have played.

Just because a home has a strong foundation doesn't mean it has a low ceiling.

Bosa like Manning will probably turn out to be a better NFL player than college player. Manning got criticized because he never won a national championship at UT. He went to the NFL and became a HOFer. His replacement at UT, Tee Martin, won a national championship the following year and went on to do nothing in the NFL.

Agree, and also Bosa or Allen is walking into a great situation with Buckner as his 3-tech DT. Anybody that is faster, stronger, and quicker than Marsh is going to have double his sack numbers, in my opinion. Kyle is a genius in finding offensive undrafted talent, example - Mullins, Brieda, and others, I'm hoping he goes all defense with his high round draft picks and trust his genius to get him his offensive players. The Joe Williams pick still leaves a bad feelings about kyle's rookieness when he drafted him. Hope he's more veteran now and trusts his scouts and GM a bit more.

Well you test that home..... and record how it performs.

In the case of Bosa, he has played the game. We know how he performs. We have game tape and stats that can measure his performance. We also know he had access to above average conditioning/strength coaching since he started playing ball.

You can look at some players like, QW and think...my god what would happen if this guy had NFL nutrition and NFL strength and conditioning. He is more likely to be a better pro then he is a college player. In fact if he had better strength/conditioning since he was a teenager he would have been even MORE dominant against college level players.

Yep and Bosa showed that he can absolutely dominate. What he put on tape is that he can win in all the ways you'll want an NFL edge rusher to win.

That is what you're looking for when you watch a player. How much of his game translates to the NFL. Are they just a great college player who will be limited at the next level or are they someone whose ability will allow them to thrive in the NFL?

In that regard, Nick Bosa has an even more diverse collection of traits than his brother.
