I would not complain if we took James but again I think we have some bigger holes we need to fill right now.

I agree. The closer the draft gets, the more I'm starting to want this guy at 9. He just makes sense in this defense.

Only concern is what happens with Tartt, Ward, Colbert? I think Colbert is a stud by the way.

We were very close in 2011-2013 when we had Justin Smith, Soap, RayMac, Aldon, Willis, Bowman, Brooks, Hitner, Goldson, and our slew of good corners at the time (Rogers, Culliver, Brown, Brock, etc.)
If we draft both Fitzpatrick and Carlton Davis or James and Carlton Davis or even Ward and Carlton Davis we will be closer than you realize.
Saleh's creating his own defense with a lot of similarities to the one in Seattle...just as Quinn's done in Atlanta. A lot of pieces are already in place to become a defense to be reckoned with...but more CB and S depth, a LB to augment Foster and a legit topflight Edge are things yet to come. Most could come this off-season. I'm sure a nickname will eventually surface...but it won't the Legion of Boom II. As many have noted, the NFL's a copycat league...and it's a testament to what the 'Hawks did that more & more teams are going to that style of defense.
No, that was Seattle.

Agreed. This would annoy the heck out me if this became some legion of boom revival tour for Sherm and our secondary. This is Kyle's show, get on board. Don't need any cute stuff.
A lot of posters are really caught up in the nickname and "No because it's like Seattle and we want to be different and we hate them."

LOL.

That's not the point at all of the thread. So who cares at all about the nickname? It can be a different one or no nickname at all. But the point is this.

1) Can we have a very elite secondary?

2) Is that one possible good way to build if all the best pass rushers are off the board?

1) Not this year. We can have a very good secondary but it won't be elite. Maybe in a couple of seasons but not yet. We'll be more 'Unit of Pop' than 'Legion of Boom' in 2018.

2) If you can't find a pass rush then a strong secondary can't hurt. Can't think of too many truly elite secondaries that had no pass rush though. They go hand in hand.

I'd focus on the line over secondary this year. You need dl, lb, sec to get to Seattle's level just with our current talent I think the needs at edge, lb outweigh the needs in the secondary.

I would rather have a pass rusher too. But if the elite ones are gone is this a good way to build instead? You have to go with what the draft hands you. We have no control over the first 8 picks.

Landry is a great scheme fit and a pretty good prospect and will be there at 9. Otherwise Edmunds and Smith make sense at lb

I like our secondary right now and don't think major upgrades are needed right now.
Hoping for an opportunistic unit that creates field position and gets off the field on 3rd down and medium to long. Is that asking too much? Maybe... nothing pisses me off more than conversions on 3rd and 9. Actually, check that... phantom pass interference/defensive holding penalties on 3rd and 9 piss me off more.

I guess it was the title, which I see you have now changed. No 12th man, no legion of boom. I want a great pass rush naturally. Like, what 49ers fan doesnt? But I want to do it our way. And the nickname, if you have to have one, comes when the D has proved itself.
