Better not be for anything more than a 5. Trading anything significant for a soon to be 32 year old CB who is likely to get cut anyway is just stupid.
5th round is to high in my opinion. I'd dangle a 7th and a future conditional 6th. They are having to dump salaries to make a run at Cousins so they will be desperate.
IF Talib will restructure his deal. Id hate to lose out on a difference maker because of him.
His ass will be cut they save $11 million by releasing him....I'm not giving him $12 million at 32. We need some vets but not that old with that high of a price tag
This. Any trade rumors are all smoke coming from Denver, CO hoping some desperate team will bite and take the bait so they can get anything from Talib before eventually having to release him.
Yeah, he'll be released and become a FA - just hope we aren't interested.

If we are going to trade for a player i would rather it be a younger vet that will help us out longer-term. We have cap space, but let's be smart with it

We will absolutely not go with a DB on our first pick when we have had success drafting DB's after the 1st round.
Edge rusher is one of the very few positions that are successful outside the first round. There are the positions that have the lowest success when they are drafted outside the 1st round.
OT, QB, Edge Rusher, and NT.

I'd love Roquan Smith or Quenton Nelson but if we can't secure Kyle Fuller or Trumaine Johnson, this would be the way to go esp. with a small trade back.
We're 6th in run defense WITH Brock Coyle and he'd be swapped out for Malcolm Smith this year so adding a young premier CB to Ahkello Witherspoon would be critical.
Kind of deceptive. I think we may be 6th in terms of yards per carry, but our total yardage isn't great. That could be attributed to the fact that terms just ran on us a ton because they had leads, but regardless, we aren't there. Also, although we badly need help at CB (arguably, we are the thinnest at this position on defense), I see Smith adding more than Jackson in terms of ability. I'm hoping that we end up bringing in a veteran CB so we won't be faced with that decision in the draft.
Just the opposite actually. Teams ran more on us than anyone by a wide margin IIRC and the fact that we're 6th in YPC is remarkable. We have an entire front 7 with depth built (esp. in this scheme and Saleh's defensive philosophy) to stop the run on 1st and 2nd downs.
I did acknowledge why teams ran on us so much. I guess the best way to know is to look at our rushing yardage numbers with Jimmy starting. I'm just saying this run defense isn't making me forget to 2011 run D. Or better yet, if we faced the fast type of RB we want for this system, could we stop them? I don't see it. Fortunately that type of back isn't in our division, but my main point is I want us to get more team speed in our front 7.

No way this team takes Talib. I remember a quote from a Webzoner about Aquib Talib when he was available a few years back. "I'd rather have Talib Kweli."
I agree.

Can someone explain why no one wants one of the top players at one of the biggest positions of need? We have 1 starting corner on the team, and he's looked good, but isn't elite by any stretch. Talib has the size this team wants and is one of the top graded CBs by PFF for years. Last year he was at 86, I believe. If we can trade him for a low-round pick, why not?

Personally, I think they should trade the #1 pick to get another opportunity to improve their roster in a meaningful way. Obviously they'd trade with a team not enamored with Allen, if he's the guy they really want. There's some risk involved trading down, but only if you don't make all your extra picks really count.
As for the Niners, I think they'll take either Fitzpatrick, Bradley Chubb or possibly Arden Key. It's always tempting to take a guy like Nelson, but since they've already transformed Garnett's body for Shanahan's offense, I'd say it's pretty unlikely they'd want to do it again with Nelson. The guy I like is Isaiah Wynn from GA...he's got the quickness in run and pass blocking, plus he's tough as nails. He's probably a 2nd rd pick, outside chance early 3rd rd.
Nice post, Corva.... This shows that you are paying attention to how a player will actually fit into the team. While a great prospect, Nelson, at 330 lbs., does seem heavy for a zone scheme. Nice to hear that you have an alternative in the lower rounds that would fit well.
I guess the question that remains is this.... Assuming a run on QBs in the top few slots (not a reach) while also accounting for the fact that Fitzpatrick and Chubb have both been put at the top of some lists as "best player in the draft", what do the Niners do if both are gone when their turn comes up? Arden Key seems like a reach at 9 or 10. Do you then go back to CB or even ILB? Is there another pass rusher in the draft that would warrant a top 10 selection outside of Chubb?

Because he's a horrible human being, and that happens to matter around here. Plus it's a lot of money to invest in an aging CB

because he's a headcase and we finally have a decent locker room. He's gonna be 32 and has a $12 million dollar cap hit and while still a good CB his play went down this yr.
IF we were a CB away from winning the SB, I'd take a shot on him on a 1 yr deal or something but we're not. PASS

Draft Analyst's Chris Tripodi calls Virginia LB Micah Kiser a name to watch for in the Reese's Senior Bowl.
Tripodi mentions that Kiser didn't have much fanfare coming into his senior year -- caling him an "underrated" prospect -- but that the 6-foot-2, 240-pound linebacker built off his sophomore and junior campaigns to become a legit Day 2 prospect, in his mind. "He'll have an opportunity to put his sideline-to-sideline speed, motor and instincts on display in Mobile," he writes, "and he could jolt his stock if he shows well in coverage -- an ability he's flashed at times in his career."

He's aging and he's a giant tool? When guys like that get older and naturally start to regress, they never look in the mirror, they put the blame on everyone else. Roddy White in Atlanta is a good example of a guy who went full on drama queen when Kyle Shanahan cut back his snaps, then the Falcons let him go and it turned out that nobody else wanted him either.

Talib is still playing at a very high level. He's just is complete jackass. He acts like 15 year old. Spitting in players faces, eye gouges, fighting, ripping off Crabtree's chain just because, shooting incidents in the off-season, and I'm sure I'm missing much more. It's always amazed me that Goodell never dropped the hammer on him. He can't go more than a year without some drama.
