Some OLine Prospects

Question for you draftniks, if Nelson is gone at #9, would you take one of the OT's at that point? Couple of draft sites plugging in guys like Orlando Brown and McGlinchey at that point.

Brown isnt a great fit for the offense, although itd be fun to see two tackles as big as a Chevy Suburban. McGlinchey got worked by speed rushers over and over. He's a right tackle in the NFL.

I don't think we pick either of them, I think we'd rather trade down or pick one of the Defenders at this point.

I think if we did look at OT we'd want them to play G until Staley retires, not sure either are a great fit to do that.

What about K. Miller, Okarafor, or C. Williams? One site had us taking Williams and playing him at G until Staley retires.

One later rd guy worth a look is Sean Welsh out of Iowa. Has the quickness you want in this system to get into the second level. Has solid bend and he's got some versatility (played both guard spots and tackle) I think he could be a center as well.

He's a little light in the pants (295-300 lbs) and needs to get stronger (got pushed around in some one-on-one drills at senior bowl)

I like seeing stuff like this though

Good job for 49Era fans. We need search to find the best Offensive lines. We need draft the Offensive Lines.

I wouldn't at 9-10.

No other OLineman but Nelson is worth that pick.

I'd trade down if no special guy fell into our laps and pick OL later.

Totally agree Vegas... One of the things we have to keep in mind is that Shanahan's system calls for O-lineman who are more athletic and can move....and that often translates into smaller guys. Many NFL teams would choose big, mauler types over the smaller guys so the Niners can probably find guys that fit their system a bit later in the draft.

To me, if the Niners cannot trade down, it makes more sense to draft an edge rusher (if one is still there that they like), a stud LB, or a CB (in other words, a skill position). Given their offensive system which covets a different kind of O-lineman, I'm not even sure that Nelson would be the best value if he were available when they pick. Also, the state of their WRs is pretty solid now so it also doesn't make sense to draft a receiver at 9 or 10 either. There are other needs that are more pressing. With Foster's issues, I would personally take R Smith if he is still there at 9 or 10. ILB now becomes a big need.

Let's take two more this year I like what I'm hearing about Daniels and Wadley maybe slides to the 5th or 6th now. Maybe 7th.

An NFC area scout told NFL Media's Lance Zierlein that his evaluating circles, Michigan State C Brian Allen is referred to as "Bully of the Big Ten."

The scout notes that Allen is "always bringing it to somebody each and every game." This quality in the 6-foot-1, 300-pounder is one which Zierlein also picked up on, with the analyst noting that Allen "will not back down from physical challenges" and "loves to finish blocks with a message." While he has the kind of mix-it-up attitude that's desirable in an offensive line prospect, he's also somewhat undersized and lacks the overt athleticism to land as a Day 2 prospect. The scout in question, here, believes that Allen will ultimately be drafted late on Day 3. Undrafted free agency remains very much in play as well.
