MD, since you eliminated some obvious characters from your board, among those currently on it, whom would you consider to have the greatest high-risk/high-reward future in the NFL.

Mixon. He has prototypical size/speed/hands and you don't have to be a leader at RB, just a guy.

Best player with inconsistent motor- McDowell. If he had the heart of a Barnett, he would be a top 5 pick.

Lower than Hooker for sure. However, the floor is really high. Ready to plug and play now. I don't see the huge upside of Hooker, but Hooker's tackling needs some real work.

I've heard McDowells talent when fully motivated can be a candidate for all pros and dpoy year in and year out. But that motor has everyone scared of him. If he had the motor, he wouldve been in discussion for number 1 along with garrett.

2 well 3 of my favorite players in the draft just mentioned. Love Barnett, Mixon and McDowell. The way McDowell was able to play NT and take on double and triple teams and beat double teams. If he is motivated he might be the JJ Watt to Garretts Von Miller.

Just need to get another back to help out.

I agree on the carries, and think his catch number has no upper limit.

While it would be very exciting to see Shanahan get his hands on him, I think his stock has been inflated, call me old fashioned, but even if I don't need a bell cow, I at least want a 1st round RB to be able to do it if required.

Interesting to see that you're super high on Basham, but not on most of the other edge rushers thought to go in the late first early second.

As for grading and big boards in general, if you were a GM, do you individually grade each player, and then apply a multiplier to positional value and/or need value, and then arrange them in order of high to low?

Guys like Lawson and Harris are somewhat single dimensional. You are getting a fierce pass rusher and not much else. Basham has a more well-rounded game, and is big enough to play the 4-3 DE.

I grade players by round, then three tiers in each round. So, my top 6 are Round 1, Tier 1; the next level from 7-12, tier 2; and the rest of first round graded players, tier three.

Hope that makes sense.

Great job as always MD. You have a 1 next to Takk as his draft grade but you have him at 8th at his position and 47th overall. Just wondering if this was an oversight? Where do you think Thomas projects best in this defense? How does he compare to Aaron Donald?

It was an error. I have Takk as second round grade.

Donald was about 12-15 pounds heavier that Thomas, shorter and squattier but has similar traits. However, Donald is purely an inside guy, while Thomas should play inside and outside. As for interior pass rushing, similar for sure.

MD, who are some off the ball LBs that you like in rounds 4-5? I want the 49ers to have a good developmental prospect there to learn behind Bow, possibly fight for snaps with RRArmstrong. I'm looking for instincts more so than athletic ability. Perhaps there's a guy that has great awareness but posted meh combine numbers?

IMO you should have left Conley on your board but I get why you took him off.

You mentioned a few weeks ago you wore torn with Myles Garrett. What has kept him #1 on your board?

Another round of watching pre-Arkansas injury Garrett with post-Arkansas injury Garrett. Two very different players. Willing to give him the benefit of the doubt.

Makes sense to me, thanks. Are we overreacting or does this draft actually contain the most guys with 1st round grades you've ever seen?

I've heard people usually say there are about 20-25 true 1st round grades a year. This year it seems around 40

My favorite is Samson Ekubam of Eastern Washington. If we could score him with a late fourth rounder on, I would be pumped. Super athletic, can rush inside and outside and also drop. Total stud!

My favorite no-namer is Blair Brown of Ohio at 23rd best overall. I think he goes 3rd or 4th round. So good! Love the kid. Total pro in his stance, preparation, instincts, and more. Watch the Tennessee tape to see a real treat.

Forty is too many. The difference for me this year is the amount of guys I grade second and third rounders. A whopping number.

He is crazy good when he puts it all together. Reminds me a bit of Chris Jones of Miss. St. last year. He was a top 10 talent that I graded much lower because of consistency. Well, he put it all together last year and was a stud. McDowell could possibly do the same. I just got burned by Carl Davis the year before and am cautious about these guys. Some rise and some flame out.

Cool, good year to pick at the top then, hopefully we manage to get 2 guys with 1st round grades at #2 & 34, then our 3rd rd grades a 2nd and 4th grades a 3rd. We could knock this out of the park. Excited

To me that begs the question regarding Thomas ? What is Thomas's potential in the future to put on more weight and still be effective, i.e. Explosive, quick and disruptive. And if so how much weight could he carry ? He is young but is he projected to still grow and fill out and still keep his speed ? I don't see it as a deal breaker but it would be nice to have a feel for what some think about it. Tx
