The 2017 NFL Entry Draft (no spoilers)

Yes, I read he is actually very cerebral, not sure about his arm strength etc, but s**t, i want a guy with brains who's ACCURATE. I don't care about rockets. Montana didn't need a rocket because he knew the receivers speed, where the defenders would be, and where the ball needed to be for the guy to get it before he was even there!

If they think he can ride the bench and learn/groom, I'm all for it.

Yeah, when QB's throw with anticipation it's called a "questionable arm" and when a QB can't and throws it 100 MPH instead, he has a "great arm." Welcome to the pro game, folks!

Edge rusher would be nice but the front 7 looks way better than it did yesterday. Could go CB but I would like to give Johnson a chance, I find he always plays pretty well when given a shot. I think Reid will be the SS unless Tartt's instincts have improved. He runs and hits so well but his angles and decision making are questionable.

I expect us to get back into the 2nd. But already this defense looks a LOT better:

DE - Buckner
DT - Mitchell
DT - Armstead
DE - Thomas
LB - Ray Ray/Smith/Brooks
ILB - Bowman
LB - Foster
SS - Reid
FS - Ward
CB - Robinson
CB - D. Johnson

Gonna be some tough cuts.

I see no tough cuts yet, unless Brooks is readily outplayed, which I doubt happens. It will be interesting to see what happens at linebacker.

Lynch can walk. Always out of shape. He doesn't care

Does anyone else think it feels weird having a GM trade back and get a player thet wanted in their original spot and then trade up for a player that should've gone way higher instead of player that EVERYONE says we could've gotten later (Reid, davis, garnett, etc)? Crazy. Is this what competence feels like?

What are you talking about? This was a total Baalke-esque draft.

Another DL and an injured questionable character player. No QB and no WR.

j/k

The difference is that I feel like a plan is in place. I fully expect they are not done adding this year or that will be the priority next year... instead of drafting a safety 1, cornerback recovering from acl injury 2 and then a player transitioning to a new position in a spot where we have depth already 3.
Very nice first round. I'm not the hugest fan of Thomas at two, simply because we have invested heavily on defense in the first, especially dline. BUT I can't argue it was an extremely solid first round.

Now can I has Some offense the rest of the draft? Someone say Chris Godwin with our next pick? Prolly have to move up for him. Then let's snag a RB to help Hyde. Hunt would fit the bill I would imagine.
Just read the 49ers had 1)Garrett 2)Thomas 3)Foster in that order on their big board
Now we need some offense and DBs
So we don't have any 2nd rounders tomorrow, but we have back-to-back early 3rd rounders (thanks Chicago!)

What do we do? Keep both and draft two players? Or package the two together to trade back into the second round?

That's like having to choose between 1) Scarlett Johansen, 2) Margot Robbie and 3) Jennifer Lawrence and somehow pulling off a threesome.

Keep both. Deep draft for CB's...couple with Peterman would be ideal.

Our two 3's are worth more than a 2nd round pick according to draft value chart.
From Shanny's interview it sure sounds like Foster missing a significant amount of time to start the year is quite possible. But nothing to be concerned about down the road. We're not contending next year anyways so it doesn't bother me much.

One 3rd and next years 3rd should get us back up. If we could steal Dalvin Cook that would be incredible.
