The throw he made to Boldin in the NFC Championship game in front of Earl Thomas is one of the best you'll see a QB make. Kap had his share of mind blowing plays...unfortunately he had way too many wtf plays as well.

Mahomes has some great tools and makes some awesome plays but he's raw and needs work and the question will be with him just like with Kap...can he put in the effort to improve his game as a pocket passer. Though to his credit he's a better passer at this point in their respective careers and Mahomes doesn't run as early as Kap did so the odds of him being a better pocket passer in the NFL is higher...but to me still a question mark and one I don't want to take a chance on with a top 10 pick.

Think about it. ...

In an NFCCG in Seattle no less...

Good man, you remember that play. I didn't remember it being in the nfccg though. Your memory is better than mine.

The plays where almost identical but I think kap had even better velocity and trajectory on the ball. Im splitting hairs but same play. That doesn't make up an NFL QB though. That was my only point no matter how unbelievable the play.

Lol. Sigh...

Bingo!!!

3rd round, sign me up... (maybe)

If he can settle down and actually utilize a pocket maybe. But if his instincts are to try and run to create his own throwing lane than no. That was Kaps problem, he never learned to slide in the pocket and play in a pro style offense. You cant teach instincts, its just who you are at your core.

Pocket presence, pocket awareness along with pocket utilization is they key to a QB's success at the next level. The pros are doing it wrong when they scout QBs and most of them only look at the attributes like every other player. That is a one way ticket to disaster. Ill say it right now, the top 2 qbs from this draft will be Trubisky and Bethard. If you can't utilize the pocket to protect yourself then you won't last long in this game.

Thing is, he throws from the pocket whenever there is one. TT was notoriously awful at protecting him. There are several clips of him throwing on time and accurately, with great anticipation. They just don't make the highlight reels, because they look routine by comparison.

To be fair if he's there at #34 there better be someone really damn good on the board to make me want to pass on him there. #2 is too early. Top 10 is too early even if we trade down.

#34 that'd be a great pick and could be our version of Mack/Carr.

Agreed. It's lazy to compare him to Kap. Mahomes will stand there and take a hit to throw a bomb or even scramble out when the pocket crumbles and then throw a strike. Kap on the other hand, freaks out at any pressure at all and just takes off because he knew he could get yards.

There's a difference with how Russ scrambles and how Kap scrambles.

How many times have we seen Kap make the oline look bad and run straight into defenders? Pure pocket passers protect the ball and either eat the sack or throw it away if it isnt there. Another thing Kap could never get right. He would rather fumble it away trying to do something. Those are the instincts whether you run or not.

Yeah, how often did he do that? Once. Put up a highlight reel of him escaping and throwing and you'll get one highlight. My only concern with Mahomes, or anybQB for that matter, is his ability to go through progressions and make the right decision.

I'm not interested in drafting Kaepernick. I'd like for the 49ers to draft Mahomes, Who gets crushed in the pocket delivering 40+ yard bombs. When he escapes, he looks a lot like Roethlisberger. There are successful pocket QBs in the NFL, like Rodgers and Roethlisberger, who still make huge plays outside the pocket. There are less-conventional pocket QBs, like Wilson, who make their money most commonly on broken plays, and the league hasn't really stopped Wilson yet.

Hasnt stopped Wilson yet? When did he ever get started? He is the product of good talent around him. Now with the talent evading he throws 21 TDs last year? He is not elite and im not interested in drafting him either. s**t, Kap had 16 TDs with only 9 games started and a broken beat down team.

Russ had the worst offensive line in football and was limping around for a handful of games.

Kap had the worst coaches and offense in the league. Whats your point?

My point is simple. I don't want another gimmick QB I want a pure pocket passer which Wilson is not, Or Mahomes for that matter. ..

Remember Russ' amazing run at the end of the 2015 season? That came because the o line started playing decent. He had the highest rating of ANY qb when passing inside the pocket in the past three years , because he finally had a pocket.

no way Hooker is as good as the late as Sean Taylor to be on the top 3, or better yer, is Hooker even close to an Earl Thomas??

By putting Lattimore as high as 4, that's basically saying that this kid is as good as PRIME TIME.. Lattimore isn't even better than Shawn Springs was when he was at Ohio State.

Mahomes - I see him getting drafted in the 1st, but we're talking about, towards end of 1st if EVER... he may just be the reason why GRAPPOLO has yet to be dealt... I saw 4 Mahomes games and there were times that he reminded me of JIM MCMAHON.. and there were times that he made some awesome plays that BRETT FAVRE used to make.. but he's no top 10..

REDDICK - may just be the one that can be a surprise by getting drafted between 2 to 6 !!!

Sorry to the MADDOGS followers and believer, I just really don't see how Hooker, Lattimore, Mahomes or even Reddick being better than Jonathan Allen at all..

I don't get where you make these analogies from
Just because Lattimore is going 4th overall doesn't mean MD thinks he's as good as primetime

And why are you bringing up Sean Taylor and Earl Thomas? This is a best board not a projection of how well they will do in the NFL.

Brett Favre and McMahon are horrible comparisons to Mahomes.

You need to think before you post, I've been reading a lot of your posts in the draft thread lately and they literally make 0 sense. Do you watch these guys play? All you do is compare prospects to HOF NFL players and get upset when people disagree or you ignore them.

MD also said it's a best board. It doesn't mean he thinks people will do better or worse than others projected before or after them. Allen fell on his board because of injuries, just like he did on probably the first 10 teams picking this year.
That's not saying Allen won't have a more dominant year in his prime than those guys, it just is a red flag with his shoulder issues.
