With a first your looking for a impact player well Adams is that on his rookie contract.
It Eliminates the gamble your taking when making a selection because he has proven he can excel at this level.
If your set on a lineman you don't even now if one will be there when we select.
With Staley signed for a few more years a tackle most likely won't beat him out and we could always draft and groom a lineman in the 3rd.
All that said I don't think Lynch will do it.
I get it and Adams actually fits one of our top needs, but I'd rather use that first on a tackle. Yes, that player likely wouldn't start if Staley continues to play for a few years, but I'd rather have a 1st round talent waiting in the wings than someone to develop in the 3rd. This also gives us a player that theoretically could start now as opposed to needing development.
On another note, someone brought up a good point of players quitting when the going gets tough. I'm not all familiar with the situation in NY, but I wonder what has changed because things weren't roses in NY his first two seasons, so it isn't fair to put Adams in that category of quitting when the going gets tough. But it is something to wonder about. If our tackle situation were settled or if we even had a 2nd, then we absolutely should inquire.
I wish we could find a team that would overvalue some of our guys so we could load up on picks. We are going to need to load up on quality draft picks and use them on quality players to prepare for players being on large contracts (2 more years of cheap contracts for a A LOT of guys at the moment).
