Welp. I was/still am happy with the Buckner pick though.
This. I was absolutely certain we would get Fleener. I figured a combo of Coby Fleener and Vernon Davis would be deadly. I didn't think we would keep Delanie Walker and Vernon was all world at the time.
As far as his draft picks go, I loved the 2011 draft and I am the same now. Hated 2012, starting with them passing on Fleener. 2013 was ok. Things changed for me in 2014 with the BS with Harbaugh. As much as I hated some aspects of our offense and that he wouldn't dump Greg Roman, whatever issues they had could've been worked out. But had we hired Adam Gase and kept our super star defensive staff, all would've been forgiven. But to go with Jim Tomsula? To this day, I still believe this was Jed York's doing, but Baalke was there and went along with it. Considering his reputation at the time, he could've resigned and would've easily found a job. There's no way you stand idly by while your owner hires a guy who has no business doing a job, leaving blame to be left with you if it doesn't work.
It only got worse from there. With the retirements of Willis and Borland, as well as NaVorro Bowman coming off of a serious injury, I didn't like him passing on Denzel Perryman. I didn't like letting Anquan Boldin walk. Yes, our young guys needed the opportunity, but opportunity is one thing. Depending on all those unknowns is another. For YEARS I did not like Baalke passing on quarterbacks.
Now as for our most recent drafts, all and all, I am ok with them. But the reality is, he has far too many misses, not enough hits, and there are too many things that point to this franchise trending downward on his watch.
