On the off chance we suck this year..........

Ok so it's early July and I thought I would pick some of the more knowledgeable fan's brains and find out who you like at QB that will be in the 2017 draft. Most mock drafts not surprisingly have us picking in the top 5 next year. I'm not here to debate whether or not we will be awful this year. Personally I think we will at least be 8-8 if not better this year. The roster in my opinion has more talent and the coaching staff is better. However if we are in the top 5 of next year's NFL Draft that most likely means we still don't have our QB of the future or present for that matter (baring a late season push from Jeff Driskel).

A lot of the "draft experts" have the 49ers taking QB Brad Kaaya from Miami. I have seen him play a few times but not much. What I have seen I honestly don't remember and I just don't watch as much college football as I used to. I like QB Baker Mayfield from Oklahoma but again I have watched very little college football the last 3 or 4 seasons. I would like to keep this discussion revolving around the QBs and who you guys like. Obviously this season and injuries will dictate who falls and who rises up draft boards but let's forget that for a moment. So on the off chance we suck this year and have a top 5 pick who is you're pick at QB and why?
I like Watson and Falk. Watson is a complete package at QB, who gets lumped in with running QBS because he's an athlete, imo. Falk is pretty polished. So far, he reminds me of Goff, but with less demonstrated ability to feel pass rushers he can't see.

As a wild card, I'd keep an eye on Jim Kelly's idiot nephew. He's very talented, but he's had a huge knucklehead streak. He stayed out of trouble last year. Another good year could go a long way to repair his draft stock.

Myles Garrett.... Yes, we have a need for a QB and WR. Yes, it is another defensive player after drafting Armstead and Buckner. But, he looks like Von Miller or pre-meltdown Aldon Smith. It would be hard to pass up that type of talent.

We probably won't have the chance. Cleveland will still suck, SD might not be any better, The Bears are garbage, the Titans and Bucs are still figuring it out. Atlanta, Detroit, and Philly could be pretty bad. Even if we're not a good team, there are a lot of teams whould possibly pick ahead of us. That likely puts Garrett, Watson, and Fournette well out of our range.

sure would be great if Kap showed up..maybe played like he did showing the injuries and lack of coaching sucked..that would make the need for qb not number 1..i also think Garrett is out of the question unless we draft 1st or 2nd..which god no don't let it be lol..im think WR Juju Smith-Schuster might be the pick if we draft around 11th..
Myles Garrett in the 1st if tank and Harold don't show anything this year. And Gunner Kiel in the 2nd
JT Bad News Barrett, if he comes out. Will be available in the 2-4th rounds.
Man, If Kap can be as successful as he was in 2012 (need a dominant running game for the scenario to be the same), either Brown shows up in shape or Thomas/Kelly/Cooper takes over RT, Lynch takes the next step, Bowman is 100%, and we get decent production out of Harold/Tank we would basically be solid at every position and able to truly draft BPA. That would be pretty cool. There are some difference-makers in the 2017 draft class, especially at RB and out on the edge.

Granted, those are a lot of "ifs" that I listed, but none of them are terribly far-fetched. Kap might have to be a much better QB in 2015 than he was in 2012 to get the same production, but he's got a gifted offensive coach, and Kap has never been afraid of hard work. Shoot, Gabbert could even emerge as a legit starter next year, though I tend to believe that it's harder for a check down guy to recognize and target big plays consistently down the field than it is for a developing QB to speed up his read progression. We'll see.

All the rest of those "ifs" seem more likely than unlikely to me.

They're probably saying the same things about us.

There's a number of bad teams every year and anything (injuries) can happen so the odds aren't great that any one team gets the #1 or #2 pick. Those teams are definitely looking at the 49ers as being worse than them (we're widely viewed as the 2nd worst team in the league right now), but any of these teams could finish outside the top 5 in the draft next year.

I'd say there's a better than 50% chance we finish with a top 5 pick, but I don't expect to finish with a top 2 pick which is what may be needed to get Watson or Garrett. Even Browns fans can't count on ending up with a top 2 pick next year and their team is worse than ours.

True, every other fan base is saying similar things about us lol, but I do think we, along with the Chargers and Falcons, will do better than most people think. Those other teams mentioned in Wrath's post sounds bout right tho
If either guy can't make it as QB this up coming season, that has to be priority #1 at all costs IMO. Watson in chip's offense would be bananas

That dude is garbage im guessing you like him at WR lol
IDK if we'll "suck" but we do have one of the top three toughest schedules in the league.

Yes, there are a handful of teams that could be pretty bad this year. My biggest concerns for the season are the following:

We should have had 2 or 3 fewer wins last year that we did...luck was on our side
We have unproven WR's
Who is our QB and is he any good
We have an unproven OL
We have unproven pass rush...
We have unproven RB's (except Hyde)

If two or three of our question marks do not improve (or get worse), we are in big trouble. Combine that with our schedule, and Trent could be looking for a new job next year.

My optimistic side says that we may not see an improvement in wins, but young players gain valuable experience and will be better prepared for 2017. We will be competitive in most games and there will be no major blowout losses. I think AA and Buckner could be a great combination that will help our OLB's. A young WR steps up and makes major contributions. Kelly learns from his time in Philly and adjusts his offense.
