2017 NFL Draft - Overrated Prospects

Think Derek Barnett is a little bit overrated. Slightly richer man's Kony Ealy at this point IMO.

Seeing a tiny bit of hype for Texas Tech QB Patrick Mahomes as possibly the best QB in the draft class. Yikes. No. Not even close. This guy has Colt McCoy written all over him. If that. The talent is simply not there.

Don't like Brad Kaaya at all.

How can Brad Kaaya be over rated when everyone says he is over rated? lol

I've seen him in mock drafts as the 2nd overall pick. Maybe everyone here thinks he's overrated, but nationally, the guy's getting more than his fair share of hype.

I'm gonna add Mike Williams to the list of overrated prospects. Most people have him ranked as the #1 or #2 receiving prospect in college.

Corey Davis > Mike Williams.

Juju's mighty impressive, but you have to wonder about the track record of USC receivers since Keyshawn.

Kayaa didn't Impress me. I think there will be better options in rounds 2/3. Barrett, Gunner Kiel, Luke Falk. Etc.

Not liking a prospect and thinking they're overrated are not the same thing. If a guy goes in the top 3 whom you'd be happy to draft in the late 20s, you don't dislike the guy; you think he's rated too high.

But you're comment of "I don't like Brad Kaaya at all" doesn't tell us why you think he's overrated correct. Which was the reason for my comment. I do agree that some have hyped up Mahomes a little too much, only because I don't think his game will translate. But what's your reason for Derek Barnett, he seems like a pretty consistent edge rusher? Not sure where the over rating is coming from??

That's just it: Barnett is a consistent edge rusher. But he's being touted as the 2nd-best pass rusher in the draft by a lot of people. Most of the hype on him seems top-10 status. I think he's a good pass rusher; he's a good 4-3 DE IMO. But that's about it. He's a rich man's Kony Ealy IMO. That's more like a guy you take in the 25-40 range IMO.

Brad Kaaya just doesn't look like an NFL-level franchise QB IMO. There's nothing about his game, really, that stands out. He doesn't have an amazing arm; he doesn't get rid of the ball all that quickly; he's not physically imposing; he's a little jumpy in the pocket & doesn't always keep his eyes downfield... He's just kind of "meh" as a prospect. I liked Lynch better in this last draft, and I didn't like Lynch very much either.

No, he's not overrated. Myles Garrett is like Lebron James was when he was drafted to a lesser extent. Superbly hyped, but he'll live up to it.

Pound for pound, I think the best defensive prospect drafted since 2000 was Julius Peppers. He dominated both aspects of the game like no other IMO. Then there were other prospects who were great like Demarcus Ware but not quite as dominant. I think Garrett is on Ware's level as a prospect. He's a better prospect than Jadaveon Clowney was pre-injury, and Clowney was a monster.
