Wentz or Goff?

Wentz or Goff?

This is a proven fact. Phoenix did a good study on this. The majority of franchise QB's come from the first round and usually at the top. Hopefully we won't be picking in the top ten next year. On top of that besides Watson it looks paltry compared to this year. The impact of the QB is so far and above what any other player might make that if you really believe a franchise QB is available you simply have to take them.

Absolutely nothing bad happens if Kap recovers and look great with a franchise rookie QB on the bench. Somebody gets traded for a some good picks. You covered your basis by making sure you were moving toward a franchise QB and really lost nothing in the gamble. Only strategy that makes sense when you are starting a rebuild. You want to make sure you have that guy in place in a couple of years when the team is maturing and ready to make a run. Now is the time..Pull the trigger on Goff or Wentz, whichever one Chip thinks is the franchise QB for his system.

Regardless, while Gabbert and Kap fight it out we could have a Goff/Wentz learning the system and waiting to take the reigns. We need to look towards the future and take a gamble on a potential franchise QB. Chip's offense could be deadly if he had continuity with a quality QB. He's been fielding stopgaps at the position for the past three years.

I have a sneaky feeling Trent is going to make a move for Wentz. If I had to pick a partner I'd say Dallas. They fall back a few spots and still get Elliot. We get our QB and we have the option of dealing Kap to gain a pick back.
I've been thinking about this and have also come to the conclusion that if you really believe who is left after the Browns pick is a franchise qb and you have a hint that someone is going to trade out ahead of you, you have to move up. A franchise QB is just too valuable and we have the picks to do it in this draft.

The latter. Niners better hope the Chargers and Cowboys DO NOT draft whomever is left between Goff and Wentz after the Browns make their decision on who they want. They also have to hope that neither of those teams trade down with the Rams or some other QB needy team.

People forget how many reps Kelly's teams get in practice. It's a HUGE volume. You can develop a rookie all year on his practice reps in Kelly's system. Showing off Kap's improvements on game day just get us more capital when he does get traded. I like Kap, his guts, and his talent, but Goff is already a much more skilled QB.
Yes...look at Tom Brady, Drew Brees and Aaron Rodgers led teams. It has been said accurately that the cornerstone of a franchise is an excellent GM, Coach and a franchise QB. If there is one out there we have to draft that QB and hope the Chip is the coach we need and pray that somehow Baalke wakes up or gets replaced. That's the formula for going from where we are to the SB.

Saints had like the 20th ranked defense the year they won the SB. They gave up points and yards, they were just more opportunistic. If you have a great QB, you can overcome roster turnover a lot easier than if you depend on a dominant defense which will only last so long until roster turnover kills you.

I think there is a really good chance that Baalke moves up, especially if Clev doesn't take Wentz for some crazy reason.

Reminds me of the Anthony Davis situation. Maybe he didnt have to move up for him but he identified the guy he wanted and got him.

If the 49ers feel that way about Goff or Wentz, swapping spots with the Jaguars would only cost them a 3rd rounder.

I'm completely fine with that...and who knows maybe they can recoup that 3rd with a kap trade.

I still have this strong feeling that it will be Wentz at #7. I think Hue Jackson is trying really hard to keep his excitement down about Goff. And with Baalke having North Dakota St. ties, Carson Wentz seems like thee guy!! Which I would be pretty excited about.

I'd be totally fine with that, he's got pretty good upside and he's shown himself to be clutch as well.

This is a big boy throw to win a championship.

Another nice TD throw.

Goff is my preference but Wentz would work fine too.

That makes a lot of sense. But regardless of the dominant rankings, I'd still prefer Goff.

To me, Goff's potential is somewhere between Matt Ryan and Aaron Rodgers. Wentz seems like, if everything goes well, more of a Joe Flacco. You could do a lot worse than Joe Flacco.

But I think Goff could be really special.

Either way, there'd be something to be excited about, which is desperately needed.

I would put Wentz somewhere in between Joe Flacco and Andrew Luck in terms of his upside.
Wentz is a local boy , so I'm Jaded .....the only thing that slightly concerns me is the level of competition Carson has faced , Goff has faced stiffer competition and bigger programs, But Wentz has all the intangibles to be a solid NFL QB, he has a powerful arm, decent mobility, and great intelligence to be groomed into a big time QB, but Goff also has the potential to be a very productive QB, plus he could possibly start as a rookie, especially in a run first offense with a solid QB mentor ...Carson would probably have to sit and learn his rookie season, but his ceiling is so high, and has all the talent in the world , and who knows how good he can become? ...hopefully this isn't Manning / Leaf all over again

I don't see that. One or both of these guys may fail to pan out but it won't be related to character issues or lack of work ethic which plagued Leaf. Both of them are hard-working, highly bright with good instincts for the position. Either one of them can flop, as can any player in the draft but I think that both have pretty good upside.
