yup hoping this kid is a niner next year..he would help turn this organization around..

I also like the fact that he owns up to his mistakes. He just told the press after the game that he made two bonehead decisions on the INTs and that he needs to do better in those situations. The kid is a great leader which is part of the reason he is something like 25-2 as a starter, with his only losses coming when he injured his knee (team was ahead at the time and in scoring position again) and when they lost to Bama in the title game. He has so much composure, and the team feeds off of his leadership.

Yup a lot to like about him, Personally its exactly what you just said i love about him, he knows he can be better and will be, and I love he can hit every throw..whether its a bullet pass between defenders like the 1 to Cain or if it has to be thrown with touch on it..in my eyes hes perfect for Kellys scheme..

LOL oh yeah your on the Trubisky Bandwagon right..?
I'm not sold on him, I'm a fsu fan and any qb can throw on that garbage secondary with constant break downs. I'm leaning towards Garrett and hopefully we can get trubisky later

I think he will only get better, the bonehead interceptions are him reading the defense wrong which is fixable if he is dedicated to watching film and studying..regardless the mistakes he is a winner and leader and has proved he steps up big when it means most..i want him to be a niner bad..

Which is a big if. Twice in three weeks he forced a pass into the exact same coverage and had it picked, the first time it was returned for a touchdown.

Is he a cerebral quarterback that will learn from his mistakes and improve upon them? I dunno.
Well, Nick Saban thinks he's the best player he's faced since last year's NFL MVP, but let's all ignore the great things he does on a weekly basis because gasp he throws a bad ball once in a while. Comparing him to Kap when he's going for 400 yards a game and slicing through defenses in fourth quarters...

Mitch is well on his way to be a top 10-15 pick no way we can land both
Dude keeps finding ways to win games...yet people continue to hate on him.

I'd have no problem drafting him.

Compared to what we have now, he looks like Joe Montana.

I'd love going after Watson. He makes his mistakes but always plays well late when it matters most. Let's also not forget that he would be hands down the best QB Chip has had to work with at the NFL level. He is built for his scheme and we would be able to see his offense run at full capacity.

I have no issues with drafting Watson at all. I will say I like Trubisky more as a passer.

Nick Saban was also effusive in his praise of Johnny Manziel as well. One of the main things I look at as far as QB's go is whether or not they learn from their mistakes. Guys will make mistakes, plenty of them, but don't keep repeating your mistakes. Make some new mistakes but learn from the the ones you've already made.

I haven't seen much evidence that Watson has been learning from his mistakes. He had a pretty good game overall but some of the throws he attempted, you just can't do.

How many mistakes is he making while going for 400+ total yards a game (500 vs Louisville) though? Is he the only QB making a bad throw once in a while?

Lots of great plays in this video:
  • The first TD was a beautiful touch pass over the defender in the flat to Renfrow after play-action and a little rollout action.
  • 3rd and 11 from his own endzone he throws a perfectly placed ball down the sideline to Cain between the CB and approaching S.
  • Next play he lofts a beautiful deep ball to Cain despite the CB having pretty decent coverage.
  • 3rd down and 21 he buys time by avoiding the pass rush and throws a dart to Renfrow that sets up 4th and 1, which they then convert en route to scoring for the lead.
  • 1st and 10 he looks to the left side of the field to draw the LB over and then throws behind that LB into the vacated space to the TE for a long gainer.
  • 3rd and 5 he pump fakes to his first read, Artavis Scott on the drag, and then resets and throws to the TE for a first down
  • On the TD to Leggett, he looks to the left where he recognizes the pressure at the snap of the ball and immediately comes back to the right where he waits for Leggett to run a corner route while Renfrow runs a post that draws both defensive backs with him. He knows that Gallman is one of the best pass protection backs in the country and calmly waits for Leggett to bust open. A bust by the DBs, but the point is that Watson knew the pressure was coming and pivoted to the backside of the play where he knew the Renfrow/Leggett route combo would occur.
  • Not shown in this video, but on the ensuing two point conversion he steps up and evades the pass rush while finding Mike Wiliams.
  • He also shows the ability to run opportunistically whether via zone reads, QB runs, or when a play breaks down.
Watson was good when he needed to be in last night's barn-burner at Fla St. Even better, though, was his TE, Jordan Garrett. He made big plays to put Clemson in the lead for good. He showed amazing athleticism and good speed.

The point is that he keeps repeating his mistakes. If you see a particular kind of coverage, get fooled by it and throw a pick, you figure out why it happened, you don't repeat it all over again the following week. You don't force the ball to targets that are covered. I want to see a QB operating methodically, not by the seat of their pants. Operating methodically is what helps you win games in the NFL, taking what the defense gives you.

Isn't that on the coaches just as much as the players? Seems like Clemson is winning with overall talent more than strategy and coaching.
